Re: Maybe getting somewhere!
Thanks for replying Tom, I think (fingers crossed) I might be getting somewhere. I got an appointment for someone who specialises in brain injury rehabilitation early next month. I know that sounds a little odd to see someone like that for dyspraxia but my GP thinks that as my problems are ...

Re: How do I get diagnosed?
Thanks for the links I'll take a look at them and I might print some of the relevant stuff off to show to my GP. I've also got an appointment for an occupational therapist next month so I'll definitely be mentioning sensory integration to them but like you said its really hard to get funding for ...

Re: How do I get diagnosed?
Your not rambling screengreen you're being extremely helpful. I've heard of sensory integration before but I'm not 100% sure what it is. Do you think it could help me with my problems? I'd love to be able to get around without so much difficulty and not be so restricted with where I can and can't go ...

Re: changing direction
Do you mean getting lost in new places or physically turning as in going round corners? I find new places a nightmare and i even managed to get lost walking out of a room and ended up in a cupboard. Turning also isnt my strong point and i tend to rotate like I've got one leg glued to the ...

Maybe getting somewhere!
I finally went to my GP about getting diagnosed with dyspraxia after hitting a brick wall with my neurologist and aspergers specialists. She said she could write it on my notes as a formal diagnosis wasnt necessary because it was so obvious I had it and all the other people I see (for epilepsy and ...

Re: Delayed development
Hi fordinand, Thanks for replying. I'm going to try get an appointment with my GP next and see if I can get an assessment for dyspraxia and I didn't want to waste any bodies time if I definitely didn't have it because I developed walking etc at a "normal" rate as a child so thanks for the ...

Delayed development
Is delayed development for walking, crawling etc crucial to a dyspraxia diagnosis? I have most of the symptoms and several medical proffessionals have suggested I have dyspraxia but I learnt to walk, talk and crawl at average ages or slightly before. Does this mean I dont have dyspraxia or is it ...

Re: constant nightmares
I have very vivid dreams too and I used to sleep walk as a kid but since my anxiety got worse they've all been nightmares I thought it was associated with my aspergers syndrome as I've read that people with asd's find it hard to get their brain to shut down when they go to sleep. Theres a nightime ...

Re: Going Out and Making Friends
Wow this sounds like some of my family. When I got really depressed and anxious I was told I just needed to "shake myself" which was a great help as we all know life long medical conditions disappear if we just shake ourselves and get on with it (I wish). It sounds like your brother is making ...

Re: Think my brother has dispraxia but not sure how to tell
Hi cerik, Have you ever looked into Asperger's syndrome? A lot of the social awkwardness you mention would fit with it. I have aspergers (and possibly dyspraxia) and when I was researching the condition before I was diagnosed I realised a lot of my symptoms my younger brother also had. I did tell ...

Epilepsy and Dyspraxia
Does anybody else have epilepsy and dyspraxia? Im not formally diagnosed as dyspraxic yet but am looking into it and seem pretty certain i have it. I just wondered what other peoples experiences were with having both conditions and if they found one effected the other. I started with the seizures ...

Re: How do I get diagnosed?
Tom, I think they were less exercise freaks and more just didn't believe me when I said I was having problems coordinating my body to use stairs and struggled to process gravel etc. it really was a nightmare as their was no one else to turn to and they just refused to listen to anything I said. The ...

Re: How do I get diagnosed?
Hi Tom, I'm glad you found a decent CBT as it gives me hope that they're not all as useless as the one I saw. I was told I had to get up and run down 4 flights of concrete stairs go out into the city centre and find a house with an uneven gravelled driveway and walk up and down it. When I said I ...

Re: How do I get diagnosed?
Hi Tim,
I tried the dyspraxia foundation but they couldn't help other than to suggest trying my GP but my GP hasn't been very helpful in the past. I'll give google a try but I'm struggling to find anything on the Internet.
I don't understand why it's so hard to get a diagnosis.

How do I get diagnosed?
Hello everybody, I posted on here a long time ago as I thought I had dyspraxia and wanted some confirmation from people who know about it first hand (and got it). However I've spent the past few years trying to get an official diagnosis and getting nowhere. I've seen neurologists, for my epilepsy ...
