Re: 65 years old - just learned there is something called dyspraxia

I pieced mine together in my late 50s after years of being “clumsy” and getting overwhelmed in busy spaces. I never bothered with a formal label, but a couple sessions with an adult OT and a local falls class helped: slower, deliberate movements, grippy shoes, walking poles on uneven ground, and giv ...

Re: Working memory dyspraxia versus ADHD

Anxiety really can mess with working memory, and it’s frustrating how it affects everything from handwriting to daily tasks. I've noticed that when I'm stressed, I end up missing simple things like meals or forgetting to take breaks, which just makes everything harder.

Re: Meltdowns - advice for Autistic Parent

I can relate to the overwhelm during gaming. Dyspraxia can make emotional regulation tough, and I’ve had similar reactions. I’d start with the GP to explore options like CBT or Talking Therapies.

Re: Meltdowns - advice for Autistic Parent

I’d recommend starting with your GP to explore adult support options, like therapy for emotional regulation or dyspraxia-specific services. Support groups for neurodivergent adults might also be helpful. It’s a tough balance, but it’s great that you’re looking into ways to help him manage these chall ...

Re: Tippy Toe Walking?

It’s pretty common for people with dyspraxia to have coordination issues like toe walking. It’s not unfixable, therapy or exercises can help improve it.

Re: Feeling really scared

It can be nerve-wracking, but honestly, babies are pretty forgiving, and you'll pick it up as you go. Just try to stay calm and remember that the nursery staff are there to guide you.

Re: Recommendations for private dcd assessment

I went through something similar a couple of years ago—spent way too long questioning why basic coordination was always a struggle. Eventually, I got assessed privately by an OT after running into dead ends with my GP and NHS pathways. The OT couldn’t give a medical "diagnosis," but their report was ...

Re: Falling under stress/ anxiety

Stress definitely makes coordination worse for me too. I tend to lose grip on things more often when I’m overwhelmed, and my focus just goes out the window. It’s frustrating because I know what I need to do, but my body just doesn’t cooperate in those moments. When I need to unwind, I usually go for ...

Re: Drinking and addictive behaviour

Yeah, I’ve had that "all or nothing" pattern too. I went almost a year without drinking, thinking I had it under control, but when stress kicked in, I went back to drinking most nights. What helped eventually was realizing I was using it to fill a gap, usually boredom or loneliness, just like you m ...

Re: No one seems to mention video lessons for driving

Totally agree about video lessons! YouTube has some great stuff that breaks down tricky concepts, plus you can watch them at your own pace. Finding a driving instructor you click with is key—if it doesn’t feel right, just switch it up. Also, I’ve found that staying chill is super important. If somet ...

Re: Driving lesson anxiety / any advice welcome

Hey! I totally get where you're coming from. Learning to drive can be super overwhelming, especially with dyspraxia. I struggled with spatial awareness too, and I found that taking things step by step really helped. Maybe focus on one control at a time during your lessons? Also, finding a driving ...

Re: What a struggle with driving

It sounds like you’ve put in a lot of effort and faced some tough challenges along the way. If you feel ready to give it another shot, I’d say go for it! Each test is a learning experience, and it sounds like you’ve made progress. Maybe take a few more lessons to build your confidence before the next ...
