What films does everyone like?
My favourites are Goodfellas, Dangerous Liasons, The Godfather and City of God. For light relief, I'd probably watch Zoolander, (or on TV) Alan Partriidge, Peep Show or The Simpsons.

Time for some cut&paste-fu (from http://dyspraxicadults.org.uk/viewtopic ... c&start=15)
"I felt Syrinnia was genius. I went to see it with a few of my friends and it's amazing how many little details there are in there. Seriously there were throw away lines that had my friend smiling from ear to ear, which he only understood because he's a lawyer and a few things that the other specialists in the group understood. I think there's maybe one person in the world who could watch that film and get every little thing. You didn't have to understand everything for it all to hold together though, I really like the way in which the different ideas were woven together in that film. It's a rather unusual technique but I like it when it's done well. Another good example is Intacto if anyones seen that?
Spirited away is fairly accessible for the sort of movie that it is. I felt it was kinda nice and feel good. Try 'perfect blue' it's a fair bit darker but is really interesting to watch. I'd also recomment 'princess monokoe' to anyone who's looking to explore that style of film. There are so many manga films out there that I haven't seen, I really must find someone to introduce me to all of them (I didn't like Akira though, that's supposed to be a classic of the genre but I just found it to be a bit boring)
Pirates of the Carribean and V for Vendetta are both fantastic peices of entertainment. Not very thought provoking (The issues in V are raised a lot more succesfully in other peices, it didn't really say anything new) but extremely well produced well put together well scripted peices of entertainment. Also both have very pretty fights :) It's amazing how much good scripting can do for a film, if the dialogs sharp and well delivered a film can get away with most other sins without bothering me. I really liked some of the exchanges in 'phone booth' I felt it was brilliant how well delivered a film could be despite mostly being set in a 2 by 2 by 8 cube :) I wouldn't put it in the same class as V or PotC, it's more a psychological thriller (I hate that phrase but I can't think of a better one) than a 'wayhay fun' piece but I'd still recommend it to anyone.
I've quite a broad taste in films (if it's not already apparent). It's all my friend Andrews fault. Damn his unlimited card and orange wednesdays! With a setup like that how could we -not- go every week?
Random films that are great, that I've not mentioned so far:
Mulholland drive (Favoriate film of all time, me and andrew discussed this forever)
Donnie darko (Not a wasted scene, love how it all fits together)
Galaxy quest (I defy a scifi fan not to think this is hilareous)
Momento (Not the first time the ideas been used, but well executed)
Requiem for a dream (Disturbing but provoking)
Hero (I liked the different perspectives. Also the pretty fighting :P)
Gregs film of the year 2006 (so far):
Brick, it's still in the cinemas, go and see it now! It bills itself as a classic detective story, I'm not sure I'd agree but I see the inspiration. Andrew says that it's very reminiscient of Casablanca, but I've not seen the film in over a decade. I really should rewatch that now my age is in double figures I'd probably appriciate it a lot more. Anyway, whatever it may or may not be brick is great. Go see it."
I have recently watched the full metal alchemist movie, pans labrynth and stranger than fiction. Suprisingly I felt the last one was the best of the three, which is odd because it's the sort of film I usually hate - but it just works somehow. Go see it too :P
Also looking at the list above I wonder why it is that I failed to give Amilie a mention on my first pass at this question. That's a very fun film :)

I would not say I have any one favorite movie. There is China Town with Jack Nicholson, who is one of the coolest guys on the face of the planet. I also loved him in the Batman movie as the Joker. Good Night and Good Luck with George Clooney and David Strathairn about the McCarthy era is a awesome movie. A Patch of Blue with Sidney Poitier is an excellent film. In the Anime section Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is just a visually stunning film and I strongly recommend it to anyone, along with Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2. I recently saw Ingmar Bergmans The Seventh Seal and Roman Polański's Repulsion which are two films that are out of this world.
Some other favorites:
Big Red One
Original Star Wars Trilogy
Tombstone
Mel Brooks films
Manchurian Candidate (the original)
Marx Brothers
Three Stooges
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Anything by Quentin Tarantino
Robert Rodrigues films
Hostel
House of a 1000 corpses
Devils Rejects
M. Night Shyamalan films
And as a honorable mention even though it is not a film for Band of Brothers which was a TV mini series produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg

Greg, if you want any manga film recoomendations, my flatmate is the treasurer of anime society, so I could ask her
I too found Akira really rather odd.
I enjoyed V for Vendetta. Freak that I am, I purchased a V mask. I shall wear it next year at bonfire night.
I never have any particular faveorite film, it varies with my mood etc. right now I have a hankering for Beauty and the Beast. I adored Snakes on a Plane.

hi all,
as for my fav films, then it has got to be
anything with Tom Hanks,
anything with Richard Prayor, esp. Brewsters Millions!!
Back to the Future
Speed
and I think the harry potter's, but not fussed on the goblet of fire.
as for tv.
High Hopes "Welsh Comedy" sort of a backstreet welsh town/"Oliver"/crime"!!!
Belonging "Welsh Drama" can't really say a lot about it as they only shown it on freeview, which I can't get!
Satalite City "Welsh Comedy" from the same writer that is doing High Hopes.
2 point 4 children! no need for explaiing!!
and did enjoy Enterprise
but only 2 out of 5 I can get now, so is it worth having a tv licence?!! shame you can't buy 6 week licences!! be a huge saving!

Bwhahaha! That's brilliant :D I want a V mask too now :P
Aye, recommendations are always good. I didn't find Akira odd though, I found it boring & predictable. Perfect blue is far more odd, but I enjoyed it a lot more ;) I think Akira is one of those things that only survives because it's a classic of the genre rather than because it's any good ;)
