I don't know if anyone will be intrested in this but hear goes.
A project which I am part of at the minuet is a plan to buld the worlds largest lava lamp in small town soap lake, washington USA.

The idea of a giant lava lamp in soap lake has been around for over 10 years but this is the most feasable and achiavible idea yet as it uses high tech materials and projection insted of achual goo.
Hears a link to the projects webpage if your intresrted http://www.soaplakelavalamp.com/

Hi Tim, I know that you posted this last year but seeing as Im new im browsing the forums and yeah. I love this idea, I adore lava lamps, my parents had an original from when one of them was growing up and I recall it being given to me for when I was growing up,since then it's been misplaced :( it really was an amazing one, now a-days, theyre OVER PRICED and in all honesty look like crap. This idea of having one massive lamp, sounds amazing. Shame nothing like that ever happens on this side of the pond, but alas thanks for the link and i'll defiantly keep looking at the page to see the improvements made :) Ellie

Thanks for the appreacation :) - as some know on hear I am a lava lamp enthusiast - I collect lamps, make some using a kit and genralie all things lava.

Unforanlty lava lamps are going through a time of chnage - the markit is flooded with cheap china made lamps which arnt as good as the UK mathmos made ones, if your going to get a lava lamp my advice would be to find a Mthmos one on ebay or from Mathmos directly.

Let us know if you find the lamp handed down to you.

Heya Tim, If i can find that misplaced original 70s one that was given to me, i'd happily take photos just to prove how different the changes have been. Yeah I've noticed most are made in china these days - but they're really not as pretty or i guess antique enough for my liking. However if it comes to that i'll consider china's operation of lava lamps, however i am going to try my hardest to find another from the 70s - even if it needs a bit of a fix up, i'm not fussed, i know someone who could do that for me. I've never heard of Mathmos.., are they an English company, or one of the originals? I'll have a look for them. I would preferably enjoy a 70s styled one if theyre available anymore, do you know any website that specifies in that era of lava lamps? Thanks in advance ,Ellie :)

Compleatly agree with you - it is verry true

Check out Ebay for vinatge lava lamps - they do come up quite regularie and there are also lots of other used Mathmos lamps on there if your looking for a bargin.
For Mathmos lamps check out http://www.mathmos.com/ the astro and the astrobaby lamp design / look hasent been chnaged since they were first desinged by there inenter.
For all things lava history check out http://www.imovatedesign.co.uk/astro/Intro.html
If your really into lava lamps then check out the lava forum I am on http://www.oozinggoo.ning.com/

Yea mathmos is a british company and were the oringal inventors of the lamp - they fill lava lamps and make the bases in the UK at Poole - there producets are kenitic and mood lighting, lava lamps and other items - they are good quality.
