Interruptions!

Post by Hal76 »

I often find it hard to judge when people are going to speak during conversational situations. I thus often find myself cutting off people before they've finished or starting at the same time as someone else. I am a timid soul though and usually back down.
Does anyone else get this?

I find this all the time, it's most annoying. While everyone else can seemingly contribute to or interject within a conversation I forever stumble on top of whoever is speaking. I used to back down but now I tend to find that, so long as the person speaking isn't likely to get the hump I'll continue saying what I'd like. The reason being is that I often can't keep the thought in my head for long and by the time the chance to speak next arises my idea will have likely either drifted off or have become a jumbled mess that I'm unable to elucidate as I originally wished.

I do that too, pretty much exactly how Dan said so there's nothing else for me to add except...me too!!
I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down :D

it happens to me a lot. it's another one of the reasons why i hate group conversations because whenever i feel able to say my piece, i end up doing it at the same time as someone else! it's quite frustrating, i hate being labelled as the "quiet one" just because of my reluctance/difficulty in contributing to conversations.

Aye, all the time.

I don't really have a solution. I do have good and bad moods. Which tend to correlated to quiet and glaring responses respectively.

I have a good glare.

*stands up to be counted*

ALL the damn time.

It's this that I often cite as being the social side of dyspraxia - I am an infallibly bad judge of mood and 'reading' people especially when it comes to timing an interjection of interruption.

I did it today in fact.

Someone put :-# over my mouth. Please.

For me it's more like this.

Scenario 1:

Person A pauses to draw breath - I start talking - they carry on talking and I've interrupted, apparently rudely.

Scenario 2

Person B stops talking. I don't realise I have a turn to speak - and someone else takes the opportunity. I am forced into silence.

Scenerio 2's are more common up and repeat themselves until I missread someone pauses and I go through Scenario 1, which given that I've probably not spoken up until that point looks like I'm talking over them.
