Try joining Rosemary Conley exercise classes. lots of people of all different shapes and sizes and abilities lots who are uncorodinated and you kind of slot in and fit in right from the start. No one judges you at all. I found them to be helpfull, extremly friendly and welcoming and above all FUN. You work at your own pace and no one watches you - they are all too busy looking at the instructor to notice anyone else. You also get advice on food and its a very supportive and caring place to be. Highly recommend them.

I think that exercise and diet are over complicated by society.

The simple truth is that every individual needs to find their own balance. Temporary diets or regimes can be very counterproductive because they are only short term solutions to a life long issue.

It's all about life style, finding a routine and moderating yourself. I've recently kicked myself back into a slightly healthier life style as I was not satisfied with my energy levels and my steadily increasing waist line.

However, what I haven't done is the obvious thing which almost every 'new year resolution' does. So I haven't taken out an expensive gym membership which I'll never use, and I haven't embarked on some fool hardy diet plan found in a magazine or website.

What I have done is cut down, (note, not eliminate) the foods in my general diet most likely to be harmful to health. But I still allow myself the odd treat, just in smaller portions and on less occasions. So I'm not consuming as many calories or as much fat.

But doing this on it's own is unlikely to help me loose weight, but simply maintain it or slow the gain. So I've reintroduced some of my personal favoured physical activities into my life.

I'm walking more often, I'm walking to the shops instead of taking the car, I'm walking to work instead of taking the car or bus. I'm regularly going for hikes in the countryside at the weekend. I'm routinely racking up 30+ miles per week.

In addition to the walking, I have a rower/gym in my bedroom which I'm regularly using to help my cardio vascular fitness and to tone my body, at some point I may reintroduce cycling to my regime too.

The upshot of these lifestyle changes is that I'm now burning more calories than that I'm consuming so I'm gradually loosing weight and becoming more energetic with greater stamina too. It's also having a positive effect on my sleeping pattern and mental health.

There is no clever secret to this, there's no trick diet, no complicated gym plan. It's really rather simple, just a sensible balance between general diet and exercise.

Hi,

What about dancing? Great fun, you meet lots of peolpe, have a laugh and you exercise at the same time. Well worth trying. If you are worried about going wrong, going in the wrong direction and all the rest of it, don't be. Half the people in dance class feel the same and they go week in week out because its fun, your exercise and meet people. Its worth looking into, honest.

I started an exercise DVD the other day as I really need to lose weight. I'm not really fat but I'm definitely not in good shape. Wish I could just wish the fat away!! I have tried some other activities but I'm really struggling to keep things up, despite my huge desire not to be so big. Anyway, already I was having some difficulty following the steps - especially when they expected legs to be doing different things to the arms! This is where the dyspraxia I have plays up more. Well, as long as nobody else is watching I'll keep trying. :D
Hopefully not making too many moot points... heh... *ahem* :D
