If you wear glasses and have dyspraxia does it seem to...

Post by quackstar84 »

make things ten times worse for you? I have had two pairs of glasses and both have made me feel like am in my own world, it makes me able to day dream with ease which isn’t a good thing... I can’t talk to people with out going blank in my mind ... It’s just a pain in the a$$, everything seems better while i`m not wearing them but I still feel weird.I have had a len changed in my new glasses and am i very sure they are the right lens for me.

Thanks.

Hey quackstar84,

I never knew anyone else felt that too!! I though it was just me. Although wearing them means I can actually see clearly, I hate wearing them for some of the reasons you mentioned and have tried to go without for as long as i can... which means that ppl have to be close for me to recognise them 8-[ . I'm only wearing them now out of necessity! I'm not sure if its a dyspraxic thing or whether everyone feels that way.

I have transitions now and that seems to help a lot with glare - and I feel that this has reduced some of those feeling for me when im outside... but that doesnt make much sense, does it!?

I found that contact lenses reduced some of those feelings but they didnt work at all for me (because they couldnt accomodate for some stuff and made me more tired etc and putting them in was a nightmare!).

I don't know whether its a dyspraxic thing or something more general... but interesting to bring up because i just thought it was me!

Iv worn glasses since I was 9 and havent ever experienced this! Perhaps the lenses are wrong, Darren? I once had a pair of awful replacement galsses that were slightly too strong and made everything strangely circular...... Wearing them made me feel like Id been drinking! Hopefully others may be able to offer more assistance? :)
Goodbye, and have a pleasant tommorrow!!
I swear to drunk im not God.....

Yeah, it might be worth checking your prescription on your glasses if it's doing that, as Fuzzy says. Personally I wouldn't be able to recognise people with my glasses *off* because I wouldn't be able to see their faces clearly enough, lol!

Ta - da I am an optician and I wear glasses and I am dyspraxic so can answer all sorts of optically related questions. However my only input on this one is hhhmmm realyy! how odd. :P

Im very short sighted and so have to wear my specs all the time so I have no comparision! I wonder how mant of us wear specs.

Littlemissme if you pop into your opticians they will be able to give you some tips as to how intertion can be made easier - every patient has their quirks, me I have to have a magnifying mirror and good light.

Yes it seems we have the same problem, Can you remember if you felt the same while wearing a pair of your old glasses?

I thought it could have been the anti glare which made me feel this way (Only because I can’t remember feeling like this when I had a pair of glasses with out anti glare)

I started to think I was on my own as well mate.

fuzzy

I went back to my opticians three times and they checked me over and found nothing wrong on the first and second… On the three they changed my lens just to get rid of me I think… They made a very small change to my prescription.

Ruth

Does this mean anything to you:

Right eye

Sphere: -0.75
Cyl: -1.00
Axis: 97.0

Left eye

Sphere: -0.75
Cyl: -1.25
Axis: 83.0

VA Dist Near Unaided vision
Right 6/4.5+ N5 Right 6/9-2
Left 6/4.5+ N5 Left 6/9+

Thanks

I've worn glasses since I was 3 or 4, so have never known any different.

I have a problem where one of my eyes is longsighted, the other shortsighted, so what limited depth perception I have completely disappears when I take off my glasses. I've also got astigmatism, so everything is blurred and in double without them.

I had to go to college one day without my glasses (I lost them, and couldn't look for them without wearing them) and I felt dizzy and seasick by the end of the day. I can't wear contact lenses as I can't put them in or take them out, so I'll be stuck with glasses for a long time :)

oh yes ok now I can offer some advice.

few more questions first, how long have you been wearing glasses?, when did you get this prescription? and what was your previous prescription? or is this your first pair of glasses?

until the answers wend themsselves to me I will say this...

Right eye

Sphere: -0.75
Cyl: -1.00 this is quite high nothing to worry about but would explain your experience

Axis: 97.0

Left eye

Sphere: -0.75
Cyl: -1.25 again quite high
Axis: 83.0

VA Dist Near Unaided vision
Right 6/4.5+ N5 Right 6/9-2
Left 6/4.5+ N5 Left 6/9+

This Is your prescription ( I tried to do the quote thing but forgot how

prepare for a scary word which is in no way alarming - you have astigmatism - thats the difference between sphere and cyl numbers. Most patients did ( like about 85%) so as I said it is not a worry in itself but it takes your brain a while to learn to see things in this corrected way.

Add into the mix Dyspraxia and it is going to be a challenge. if this is your first pair of glasses then I am totally unsurprised that you are having difficulties - even if it's just a change - well it can tak eme weeks to get unsed to a new prescription.

I can tell you more about these things if you like, lots more!!

lol

I've got some weird muscle disorder that means my eyes cant focus on something close then something far away which makes reading the board then writing notes a complete nightmare. I hate wearing my glasses because i end up focusing on the lens or the frame to see if they're dusty and miss half of a conversation this way lol.

Hello Ruth, Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 13 (I’m 22 now), I got this prescription on the 14th of the 12, 2005.

Ah... I am aware of astigmatism, I was told that if I was to look at the spokes within a bikes wheel… Some of them will be clear and some will be blurred.

I saw my doc today, He believes I may have something called “Temporal Lobe Epilepsy” … So it could turn out I haven’t got dyspraxia… I can how ever still sympathize with you guys.

Thanks again =)

I'm sorry to hear you've been having seizures quackstar84... epilepsy sounds scary.

I had no idea astigmatism could have been causing those symptoms... i just thought it might have been part of some 'sensory integration' problem!

Hey it`s okey, It can be treated with drugs if it turns out i do have it (My doc has only assumed i have it) and besides... No human is perfect =).

Oh sorry, Seems i have confused you, My astigmatism isn`t linked to my symptoms... I thought that wearing my glasses made my symptoms worse but im not sure now.

Thanks for your reply.

my secs don't bug me quite as much, but I HAVE mananges to torque the living bejeebers out of frames. my earpieces are bent all to crap, too.

I recently found out I'd developed astigmatisim...they worked fine for about 6 months, then fuzed out again, when I didn't have the money for repairs. I recently had to jury rig them together when I popped a lens, too.
