Which finger is longer?

Post by why »

People with dyspraxia, which of your fingers is longer your ring finger, index finger or are they are around the same size. What is the distance between the two? Also please state if you are male or female and only answer if you have dyspraxia. This relates to testosterone levels and i'm interested to see if there is a pattern between testosterone levels and dyspraxia.

All
Please treat this as an informal straw poll and answer if you feel motivated to

Personally I'm unconvinced of the scientific validity and really do not want people worrying about relative finger length and what that might or might not mean. If anyone can add anything re the scientific rationale that wd be helpful.

If there is a pattern between dyspraxia and testosterone level wouldn't all dyspraxic man be very muscular or skinny? And have other signs of high/low testosterone levels?

I think dyspraxic just react more to any hormones (or any other stimulation) but don't necessarily have more/less hormones.
Time is something that may change me, but I can't change time so f*** it.

Finding this post is a bit strange, as a female my testosterone levels are 0.1 which is quite low, I think I remember the Dr saying they should be between 1.0-2.0 or something like that, if I want to take something to rise the levels then I will need to see a specialist about itthey insert something under the skin, I'm still thinking about it but it's funny you think there may be a connection, I'm interested to see if you have any other messages of people concerning this subject.

my ring fingers are slightly shorter than my index fingers.

Having researched this a little bit, I've not seen much out there to support a link between testosterone and dyspraxia.
What does occur to me though is that it might be worth exploring the effect of the mothers stress levels on the developing foetus.
Since stress can lead to an increase or decrease in a whole load of chemicals etc, it's not beyond reasonable consideration to suggest that the womb environment could cause dyspraxia. Very likely far more complex than just testosterone though.
I'm not suggesting that this is the cause, i'm just throwing a thought on here for the moment until i've had time to research properly.

I wholeheartedly agree, further scientific investigation of maternal stress and it's influence on the development of the child in utero could improve understanding.

I was wary of allowing this 'finger length' thread as to me it feels indicative of the, shall we say 'flawed', thinking of people like Alfred Rosenberg, Alfred Hoche, Karl Brandt and Philipp Bouhler who were 'scientists' who influenced/enacted Nazi 'thinking'/ideology which lead to the euthanasia and forced sterilisation of thousands deemed 'sub normal'.

Everyone is different and while there may be some fact, is it conclusive? Shouldn't scientific investigation be focused on finding answers/solutions to more important things?

Sad but true.. I actually just measured as I had a ruler next to me..

They are identical in length at 7.6cm each if I measure from where they appear to 'start' although my ring finger will always appear longer because it starts slightly higher up on my hand, unless I'm some sort of freak, which wouldn't really surprise me, so if I measure using a straight base (i.e include a tiny bit of 'hand' but start from the same point) the index finger appears to be about 7.4cm compared to 7.7cm for the ring finger.
