Hi I guess......

Post by waspy_1987 »

SO..... i was diagnosed some 6/7yrs ago i think? by proxy if anything following an educational Phycologist assessment at University when I was 25 (so left it a little late in the day albeit not as late as some I've seen here!)

Not really sure what to say, i mean.... i'm a hero at procrastinating (self evident by being here and not working from home! #-o ), a professional at forgetting, have a doctorate in absent mindedness and i am very partial to the 'lost my keys, wallet and/ or phone' scenario......

I think for me, one of the greatest things that came from my diagnosis was that i had a reason as to why i struggled with so many 'simple' things, that i wasn't a 'c**p person' who 'didn't care' or was 'Selfish' (sorry for the asterixis, i will read the forum rules so I know what does and doesn't stand for future reference!)

I am a former solider (seems so obvious now why order, structure, instruction and linear employ appealed so much to me now!) former Pharmacy Technician and now Quantity Surveyor (yes.... its as boring as it sounds). A Husband to a wife with infinite patience and father to 2 young Autistic boys.

I like to socialise and meet new people (which has been hard this past 12 months!) i like to exercise, watch movies, i'm an avid gamer and very much a night owl. Have just discovered audio books which is helpful as i get fed up having to re-read a page or 5 backwards as i forget often what the hell has just happened ! Have often been referred to as a 'Stealth Nerd' as its not blatantly obvious to many (apparently) that im drawn significantly to things and stuff that fall into such a bracket of Nerdism.

Anyway..... Hi, Hello, Bonjour, Ciao, Ola. i'm really intrigued to chat with people in a similar spot to me that understand what its like to be.... well......me!

Hi Waspy and welcome

Not sure why the site is set up to asterisk certain words and not others. I'm sure it's accepted F*^K and shown it in full. (I'm self censoring here, though I know and use words that would leave Gordon Ramsay and/or Chubby Brown aghast!

I feel no embarrassment in stating that I'm an non traditional nerd in that I'm nerdy about different things to the typical nerd. Definitely relate to misplacing items and while diagnosis gives some answers there are just as many questions often with no easily discernable answer. Dyspraxia is by it's nature nebulous and an enigma. We're not unintelligent but we tend to project the opposite, or is it just other folk are not in tune with our alternative brilliance?

I think some of us are drawn to roles with regimen and process may be it's a yearning to try to escape our own personal chaos. Do feel free to peruse the decade and a half of posts and don't be afraid to reopen the debate old ones or ask new questions.
