Dysbraxia and SPD Diagnosis

Post by Jmc »

Hi,

I’ve been to my GP about a possible dysbraxia and SPD diagnosis and I was sent for an initial appointment at local council office with a NHS worker and council disabilities worker. I’m waiting to hear back from them about an assessment they want to carry out.

I’ve struggled with lots of dysbraxic symptoms such as co-ordination and speech etc. But more importantly I really need help with my eating habits and teeth brushing as I don’t eat much fruit and veg, as just the thought and sight of eating them, say a carrot for example makes me very anxious to the point of coughing and vomiting. Also the feeling of toothpaste and toothbrushes in my mouth is the worst sensation as it feels weird and makes me gag with the smell and taste of mint.

If there’s anything anyone on here can suggest, it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I have a relative who has trouble with food textures.

She eats a lot of canned baked beans in tomato sauce and seems healthy enough.

I wonder if worrying about this stuff is the worst aspect.

I am not sure about teeth brushing, maybe someone else will have ideas.

Have you checked if Dyspraxia Foundation website has info about it?

Might mouth washes be better than not cleaning at all, that is if the taste of one is tolerable?

Thanks for the reply,

I can eat liquidised soup and I have a finger brush that helps a bit but mouthwash is a no go area as it too much for my mouth to handle, I just boke and bring it up. When I’ve tried veg in the past the taste and texture was horrible to me.

Thanks your advice is much appreciated.

Sorry - it was meant to be sharing experiences not giving advice - I do know we are all different and what works for one will not work for all.
