Lack of conversation skills

Post by Amy8903 »

Does anyone else on here really struggle with conversations, be they over the phone or face to face? I really struggle to listen to what people are saying which is maddening because I really do want to listen to them! But it's like everything goes fuzzy and I just cant concentrate on what they are saying for long which makes me look really rude and ignorant. I also find that I go on a lot in conversations and come across as very self centred which is not how I want to be at all. Does anyone else experience issues like these? I really want to find ways to have better conversations and make people realise I'm not a self obsessed person!

Hi Amy and welcome

The fact you care is goid evidence that you're not totally self obsessed.

I'm not good with small talk unless I know person. Auditory processing can be difficult and writing notes while takingca callers details and establishing what I can do for them can be difficult. If they're stressed or impatient, it can be all the more difficult.

Getting them to slow down to our pace can be tricky and you have to be polite but assertive which with some callers is easier said than done. Espec if hearing the phone ring is an oh god experience.

Could a template form to help you make good notes draw out the info you need help?
