Re: Dyspraxia, Job Interviews and Driving
I just thought I'd update everyone on my job hunt situation. I've since had some new job interviews which I have felt were more respectful with regard to my credentials and experience. There were no requirements for second group interviews ( these are just part time hourly jobs without benefits) and...

Re: Dyspraxia, Job Interviews and Driving
Tom, I took your advice and told the interviewer about my dyspraxia and not driving. Surprise! They didn't surprise me. Go up to bum*ucksville for the next interview at your own expense or no chance of getting the job. The Interview isn't until next month so I have time to think about it. can't deci...

Re: Life Expectancy For Dyspraxics
I would imagine there's a lot of validity to it. In the US, there have been studies showing that one's zip code ( where you live) can make the difference of about twenty years in life expectency. The reason is 'money.' Money makes life easier and gives you health care options you don't have without ...

Re: Disability line etiquette
Interesting question--some people cant stand for long periods of time due to knee, hip and back problems. Some people with ADD get really agitated in long lines. Once I was standing in a line at a pharmacy and a guy with Tourette's was in front of me. the line was moving very slowly and he started t...

Re: Dyspraxia, Job Interviews and Driving
Thanks so much. I think I'm just angry because in two separate cases, interviewers have expected me to travel long distances to interview twice for a job whose actual location is right in my neighborhood. These jobs are also independent contractor positions, not full time salaried positions. they ce...

Re: Work things going so badly
It's OK to say no. If you overwork you won't get better and then you'll be out of work sick. Work stress can be a nightmare. Stick with it.

I didn't know that anxiety was characteristic of dyspraxia till recently. Thanks Tom, very thoughtful of you to post this.

what are the full spectrum ranges for these categories? It's hard to get a sense of what these numbers mean without range standards.

I usually have a reason. It may not be a reasonable reason, but it's a reason. I have them quite often.

Re: Dyspraxia, Job Interviews and Driving
well there would be no need to declare that you don't drive if you're applying for a job that doesn't require travel of any type. In my job there is no travel unless you're a mobile therpaist who works with the elderly or people who are home-bound which I would never do. For these types of jobs, the...

Dyspraxia, Job Interviews and Driving
I don't drive because of my dyspraxia. The city I live in is very congested, with tiny little one way streets, and many detours, etc. I recently had a couple of interviews for part time jobs both of which are within walking distance of my home and are accessible by public transport. In each case the...

Xenevire,
Thanks I appreciate the clarification. It's something to consider. And Tom yes, if one is pervasively anxious for a prolonged period of time, it can result in depression. You are both correct in my opinion.

Firemonkey,
I thought that too till I saw a neuropsychologist and got a full explanation of what was going on with me. I have some comorbidity and I found it helpful to know this because I feel I know and understand myself much better.

Re: New to this
Yes Tom, I forgot about the anxiety thing--that contributes a lot to my shut down and to a state of exhaustion as well---they kind of go hand in hand--the more I feel I'm on overload, the more anxious I become, and the more exhausted I become and it's just a vicious cycle.
