Re: Food Textures

Oddly enough I can't stand mushrooms or tomatoes either! I was talking about this the other day. Any food I don't like is probably down to the texture of it. I never thought that it might be a dyspraxic thing, but it makes sense now I think about it...

Re: Does Dyspraxia relate to Personality Disorders?

Hi MDS, no, nothing was really said about BPD to me when I was diagnosed. I was literally handed a pamphlet before I left the doctor's! As far as I know, though, it's a condition that develops in late adolescence, rather than conditions such as autism or asperger's that are present from birth (at ...

Re: Does Dyspraxia relate to Personality Disorders?

It's interesting that you bring this up. Last year I was diagnosed with a whole raft of mental health issues, including Borderline Personality Disorder. Now that I have these names, I really feel as if my dyspraxia feeds into my problems with BPD, and vice versa. However, when I tried to bring this ...

Re: writing about living with dyspraxia for general audience

That sounds really interesting! I'd love to help out with it if you need anyone to, just let me know. I do a bit of writing around the web and for myself (nothing professional though, sadly).

Dyspraxia post on Buzzfeed Community

Hi everyone. I've posted a couple of things here months ago, then disappeared. Sorry! If this post isn't appropriate seeing as I'm such a new member, please delete/tell me off etc. I've been writing and blogging around the web for a few years now, and I've wanted to try and get some stuff onto ...

Re: Being called dumb?

Hi Katiee, I understand where you're coming from. When I was at school I assumed I must be stupid because I couldn't keep up with everybody else. Noise was a huge distraction for me too, and it took me years to pick up skills such as tying laces or riding a bike. I wasn't even considered to be ...

Is there REALLY no help to be had in my town?

So, after four appointments, four GPs, and several fruitless phonecalls, I've been told by my GP that 'Oh, sorry, there's no support for adults with learning difficulties in Birmingham.' I'm sorry, but I find that incredibly hard to believe. Really? Nothing? Nothing at all? Not even a charity that ...

Re: Looking for help with diagnosis and VERY discouraged

AHA! PROGRESS! Only took three doctors, one student doctor, four appointments and a million phone calls. Good Lord. I went in today as asked, and saw a different doctor. He told me that in fact, there is NO suitable support in my area. Basically, if you're out of school you're out of luck. However ...

Re: Clothing that you hate

I'm so glad other people have mentioned tights!! I can't wear them at all, the feeling of them makes feel sick. Bleugh. Used to be a few fights over that with my mum as a kid... I'm terrible about jeans too. I've only got one pair at the minute that I can wear comfortably, the rest I own are awful ...

Re: Screening

I agree, you have to know one way or the other or you won't get any peace! It wouldn't hurt to stop by your GP and ask. I'm still wrangling with mine to try and get a referral, but I think that's an issue with my GP, not the service in general. If you really feel it's affecting you, it needs to be ...

Re: Looking for help with diagnosis and VERY discouraged

FINALLY a tiny bit of progress. Went for my third (!!!) appointment today, they said they were going to call the Single Point of Access people who apparently deal with this sort of thing, and ask where exactly they should send me. Awesome. I don't mind the doctors asking for help like this, because ...

Re: Looking for help with diagnosis and VERY discouraged

I'm not throwing anything back in the GP's face. I've gone to them for help with mental issues before, and they've actually been very decent with it. However, I feel that if I have dyspraxia it could be the cause of some of my problems, and so addressing this will help me address them. Having ...

Looking for help with diagnosis and VERY discouraged

Hi guys, thanks for reading! I signed up to the forums because I wanted your opinion on what I'm dealing with at the minute. After all, you'd be the most informed! So I've had depression and rather bad anxiety for nearly as long as I can remember. My mother, a teacher, has long suspected that I have ...
