Re: I'm about to quit my job.

Thanks for the response. I got diagnosed through an educational psychologist, the only recommendations included in that were specific to an educational setting. And thanks for linking the employer’s guide- I had a look through but I don’t really want to use that, for a few reasons- It’s really, real...

Re: I'm about to quit my job.

Thank you so much for the responses. I had gone in to work today with my resignation letter in my bag. When I told one of the other managers there that I was leaving, she seemed suprisingly keen to solve any problems I was having and wanted me to stay on. I did end up talking to her about the crap m...

I'm about to quit my job.

Part of what has made me come to this decision is the amount of stress the job’s causing me- I feel like I’m just barely able to keep it together for the 20-odd hours a week I’m required to stock shelves and serve customers at a till. What has pushed me over the limit of what I feel I can cope with ...

Re: My coping strategies - what are yours?

I do the same thing with keeping all my useful little objects in the same places- like phone, purse, keys. I plan out what I have to do for the day in my diary, working out in the morning or the night before details like how long it might take to get somewhere, how I’m getting there, when I'd have t...

Re: Clothing that you hate

I'm the same with some wooly things and lots of other textures- my ex had a soft woolen jumper she liked to wear and I couldn't stand the texture of it. When I hugged her, I pulled my own sleeves over my hands so I wouldn't touch the wool at all. Some textures you get on sofas are disgusting to me t...

Re: Does anyone else fall over all the time?

I occasionally fall over but much more often just stumble a bit, bump into things or drop things. That said, my falling-on-my-arse count this week is up to 3.

Re: Taking some things literally

I have trouble with taking things too literally too. Usually it just involves failing to pick on sarcasm. Recently, it contributed to a really horrible, stressful social situation. I had been told explicitly that something was OK and acted accodringly, when it turns out it really wasn't OK but appar...

Re: Random moments of energy

Yeh, I get really physically hyper sometimes. I end up climbing up walls, lamposts and trees and challenging everyone to arm-wrestling matches :P. I also get what I think is called "hyperfocus"?. I just get really, really into some project or activity- it takes up all my concentration and ...

Re: Any issues between Dyspraxia/Intimacy?

Just popping in again to say that I've also never managed to get to orgasm while I'm with a partner. I think it's part sensory issues, part concentration issues, part self-esteem/anxiety stuff for me. Not sure what proportion each of those takes up, or how to get over it really.

Re: Telling left from right?

This isn't a huge issue for me, I think I just take a little longer than most people to get it right (no pun intended). What helps me is thinking about which hand is dominant, for me that's the right side (but I know for a lot of dyspraxics that's less clear-cut anyway) or thinking about which side ...

Re: *waves* hi

Hi, thanks for the reply. My decision to seek a diagnosis is a bit of a long story, sorry for the impending ramble. I have always been pretty clumsy, forgetful, disorganised, socially awkward and weird in other ways (like hating bright light, loving the texture of walls, walking on my tip toes, cons...

Re: Any issues between Dyspraxia/Intimacy?

Hi. I'm also a 22 year old, recently diagnosed, dyspraxic woman who sleeps with women (and other people) who has issues with intimacy. Snap. My problems aren't to do with texture though, so I'm not sure I have any useful advice. I find being touched by a partner in certain places painful or very unc...

*waves* hi

Hey. I've been lurking around here for a while and thought I might as well introduce myself. I'm going by Skifflet. I'm a 22 year old dyspraxic, Scottish, queer woman. I only got a diagnosis last year. My older brother's dyspraxic and the physical side of things have always been pretty obvious with ...

Re: Overly empathetic?

Hi, newbie here. I would say that I'm incredibly prone to feeling guilty about everything and worrying that I'm hurting other people. Social justice is also something that's important to me. I've heard that dyspraxics tend to be very compassionate. But I also have some problems that overlap with aut...
