Re: Independent Dyslexia Consultants - anyone used them?
Sorry, I forgot to add: dyslexia and dyspraxia often happen together, a 50% overlap (in 50% of cases with dyspraxia). Dyspraxia may go undiagnosed if the dyslexia is first diagnosed. Attention Deficit Disorder (high-Low) is commonly appearing with the two Ds as well, and anxiety problems. Get some m...

Re: Independent Dyslexia Consultants - anyone used them?
Hello everyone. it depends on what you want the diagnosis for. If you are trying to access help on a course, must be at least 50% of a full time HE course, from the DSA Disabled Student Allowance (for support at university, study skills training, organisation training, technology assistance training...

Re: Dyspraxia and sex
I think this is the funniest thing I have ever read in my life!
Thought comments back were all totally true.
Expressions on my face????? Doesn't anyone have sex in the dark any more?
Maybe it is worth working our way back to the modesty stand.

Re: Dyspraxia putting a strain on relationships
Hey G. I think you are right there about the strain on relationships. But I think people put too many stresses on these "signs" that you love them, like you have to cater to that all the time. It is all just one big capitalist cliche. But mostly I think, speaking as a dyspraxic myself, fro...

Re: My odd quirks and work - How do I cope??
Your opening post rang a few bells for me. I've been accused of various things at work. Being slow and forgetful, being too friendly and being easily upset are top of the list. I've been sacked from jobs for this: but some of us humans are just LOVIES. Why can they not just get over it. I think the...

Re: My odd quirks and work - How do I cope??
Wow, that first question and description of yourself really sounds like my daughter (24yrs old). She does exactly the same. These are her traits (features). I say "don't let the bastards grind you down", but she reminds me how exhausting that is. I think these are language processing probl...

Re: Private diagnosis in London
Get advice from the Dyspraxia foundation.org.uk They are the number one place to go for advice. You have to have a neurologist. In the end it is sad that a GP cannot type Dyspraxia into a google and get DyspraxiaFoundation.Org.uk But there is a lot of argument about dyspraxia. And it often happens w...

Re: Urgent! Advice needed on the best type of laptop
Macs are great for dyspraxics because they are much more operated on commands based on images, a less cluttered 'front page' when you are doing stuff, and that helps to cut down on language processing, depends on pictures which are much better remembered by dyspraxics, and cuts down on wasted energy...

Re: Writing and Dyspraxia
Catwoman 42, yes, your comments are very insightful, that sounds like a familiar story, when people say it helps them to stay focused and writing it down helps it go in. I have that experience myself and I've been studying for 20 years (at least), with 10 of those doing degrees. I guess I had to pro...

Re: Writing and Dyspraxia
I am sorry to hear that university was such s hard experience for you. Sounds like maybe the course did not suit you and maybe you should try something less stressful. Open university gives you the chance to do the course bit by bit and that takes the stress off a lot. Did you get any mentoring when...

Re: Scraping by Academically
Hi there, I am a tutor for DSA students at university and I think you may need to ask for the "confusing" exam questions to be read out to you by a reader, or have a reader re-write the question in parts for you. That is a REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT you can have if you are experiencing difficul...

Writing and Dyspraxia
I am amazed that so many of you talk about getting on so well at school exams and coursework for writing, but do not succeed at university. If you get the course moved around so that you don't get too overloaded that helps. Do people not have weaknesses in structuring ideas and translating them onto...

Writing and Dyspraxia
Hello there group. So happy to find fellow dyspraxics on the web. I am doing research into dyspraxia and writing: how dyspraxics experience learning to write and writing performance difficulties. I tutor DSA students in university as a freelance tutor and assessor of learning difficulties, plus tea...
