Re: The word Dyspraxia - was it actually used 30 years ago?

The Dyspraxia Foundation (in the UK) were established in 1988. Believe term was coined prior to that and iirc I think I found a reference to 1948 though it would not have been in common usage or understood/accepted by many.

Undiagnosed Dyspraxia-please help!

Hi Melanie Welcome to the Forum, which has been here since 2006. I found it myself, in 2011, when I learned in my mid 30s that I was Dyspraxic. This forum really really helped and nearly ten yrs later I'm still here. We're a more a quiet backwater as a lot of the 'action' is on social media Getting ...

Re: Finally! Hello!

Oh my goodness, I don’t think I can really express how relieved I am to be here. But for now, Hi! I’m Matt, I’m 23 and a conductor/trombonist based in Birmingham. I’ve struggled with Dyspraxia for as long as I can remember and, while I’ve curtailed a lot of the physical issues like balance and coor...

Re: Hi All

Hi Chris Welcome and glad you've found us. Regrettably there is still a dearth of post-diagnosis support and often I think we are prone to perfectionism and resultant anxiety as it's just not sustainable. We can develop coping strategies to get by but sometimes the imposition of change (o rnew knowl...

Re: Solo Travel

I guess solo travel can be a bit of a misnomer and it isn't necessarily a walk across the empty quarter of the Arabian Peninsula or through the wilderness of Alaska with only bears and wolves stalking you. I did a number of trips where although I went out alone, It was to join a small group tour. Fo...

Re: Issues with parents.

Working moms and dads know juggling parenting and professional responsibilities is a delicate balancing act on the best days. Throw in a few complicated but inevitable family emergencies and it becomes even trickier. Missing your child concerts or denying them to have one. You’re going to have guilt...

Re: Issues with parents.

Rob Forgiveness granted, not that there's anything you've said or deliberately left out to intentionally mislead me. Although very much distinct from Dyspraxia, Dyslexia is more than simply difficulty with reading and or spelling. Same as Dyspraxia is more complex than stereotypical being clumsy, ha...

Re: Issues with parents.

Hi Rob Welcome, it can be like treading on egg shells and we dyspraxics can yo yo from being overly direct and blunt, to being afraid to speak in case it comes out wrong! From what you've said here, you do seem to have some traits. Regrettably many people have rather a narrow view of what people wit...

Hi E-Star

Welcome to the Forum we've glad you've found us.
A lot of our members are self-identifying /self-declaring as even in the UK getting assessment/confirmation as an adult is a bit of a lottery.

I did Chemistry nearly 30yrs ago now but struggled with the concept and maths of the Mole.

Re: New job issues

You're welcome. I think we all tend to need a sort or elastic management. so we can call on a little additional support /advice as and when we need it. Having a culture where it's good and acceptable to ask questions makes for a better workplace for everyone. Hope your meeting with your manager was ...

Re: Thoughts

I don't know if half of what I experience is due to my dyspraxia or not, its very confusing and borderline scary if I'm honest. I got handed a diagnosis and not given any sort of explanation or help or guidance outside of googling stuff. I have issues with forming coherent thoughts a lot of the tim...

Hi again Catherine Sounds like you're in overload. Quite common and been / go there myself. Other peoples' ways and systems can seem alien at times especially when brain fog sets in due to hitting point of overload.
