Re: Dream/ Ideal job for a Dyspraxic

When I graduated I worked in Recruitment for 7 months but became ill with Fibro during it (they were cool with Dyspraxia, I think I was the only disabled person in the company so HR went into overdrive with me) which got me fired the day before they knew I would be officially diagnosed with Fibro (I...

Re: making people upset

I am the same, has got better amongst those who know I'm dyspraxic. Was a nightmare when I worked though, really struggled to make friends and was constanly being bullied for it (only started once I went off sick, before that it was just teasing and laughing with me more than at me most of the time)...

Re: Disability Living Allowance

I'm currently applying for DLA (but for more than just dyspraxia). I believe that my Dyspraxia alone entitles me to LRC and LRM. With the Fibro et al I believe I should get MRC and HRM if I am very lucky. Firstly DO NOT fill the forms in by yourself, get help from CAB, DIAL or Welfare Rights - peopl...

Re: But im good at sports

Everyone is different, I'm rubbish at sports, especially racket sports like tennis. But I was pretty good at Hockey (I think being 5"1 was the reason behind that one, I was that much nearer the ball than everyone else so I could easily keep possession of it). I also can't drive - others can. I ...

Re: FYBROMYALGIA

Sorry it's a late reply - not been on for ages as have been very unwell due to Fibro. The Fibro forum I post on has a lot of Dyspraxics on it - apparently Fibro and Dyspraxia are a common combo. As are Hypermobility and Fibro and Hypermobility and Dyspraxia. Apparently having all 3 (like myself) is ...

Re: Having trouble getting a job!

Hiya reed is an excellent site, I also find total jobs, jobsite and monster good as well. I do think Reed is the most user friendly (it remembers your last cover letter which makes applying for lots of similar jobs easy as you can just tweak the old one slightly). I once applied for 70 jobs in a 12 ...

Re: dressing smart. aarrrrggghhh!

If you look at my pictures the blue and white dress is the cocktail dress. I've never been to a ball where a full length gown was a problem - they're useful as they hide flat shoes, anything weird our feet do etc. Plus it doesn't matter if you forget to shave your legs  Link us a picture of yo...

Re: Painful Joints

I have chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and Hypermobility. Some common causes of chronic pain in the joints include; - Fibro - Hypermobility/Ehlers Danlos - Rheumatoid Arthritis - Osteoarthritis (not likely if you're young) - ME/CFS - Myofascial pain syndrome amongst others. I also have twisty ankles,...

Re: Has anybody used an anti-depressant?

I have but not to treat depression. I'm taking Amitriptyline as a pain killer, side effects I've had are tinnitus (ringing in ears) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms. I've had much worse effects when I've taken drugs like codeine instead (was on codeine for about 4 months, ami's now for almost 5...

Re: Hi! New here and looking for help!

Tamsin - that's funny I also go in phases... sometimes I'll go months without reading a book and then read 3 or 4 in one day. I just struggle to get in to new books sometimes and need to go a while inbetween them to move on from the previous one. I didn't have that issue as a child, I would read sev...

Re: dressing smart. aarrrrggghhh!

Balham. I'm a 10-12, have tried to squease in to a few of the size 10 dresses but it doesn't work. There's about 4-5 charity shops in Balham, the best one is called Fara it's by Sainsburys on a side road. By a very good chippie :) Could you try ringing the shops in advance? ask them if they have bal...

Re: dressing smart. aarrrrggghhh!

I think you could dress it up with accessories, hard to say without seeing it in the flesh. Better to wear something you're comfortable in else you'll feel more awkward and I think people pick up when people don''t feel comfy in what they're wearing. I think some nice earrings, sparkly necklace, som...

Re: dressing smart. aarrrrggghhh!

Have you shown the Dr your joints? watch out for aches and pains, it's very common to get fibro with hypermobile joints, esp as they're easily injured. I think it's a good idea to look at the invite, if there's no formal invites call up and ask the Uni - I would just explain that you're hypermobile ...

Re: dressing smart. aarrrrggghhh!

I think a cocktail dress would suffice, I've seen loads of people wear them at Uni balls. If I were you I would ask the University hosting the ball... explain your situation, explain your friend has Aspergers and is unsure of the protocol and ask if it's ok. I've never seen a woman not wear a dress,...
