Crawling

Post by Lizzie194 »

This is all very new to me so apologies if this question has been asked before or if it's a fact well known by everybody!

Following something I recently read, I'm just wondering if anyone else was told that they didn't crawl as a baby. I was and now I think I know why 👶🤔

Hi Asti

I honestly can't remember if anything was said about when I met certain development milestones or how late I was doing them.

It's entirely natural upon learning we're dyspraxic to want to go back and wonder and reassess our earlier lives.

Dyspraxia presents differently in different people so it can be difficult to get an objective response even with other dyspraxics.

I have heard reports of children not crawling - but cannot recall any actual record of not crawling at all.

However I see this on the NHS website

"Early developmental milestones of crawling, walking, self-feeding and dressing may be delayed in young children with DCD. Drawing, writing and performance in sports are also usually behind what is expected for their age."

DCD are the initials used to refer to an alternative name for developmental dyspraxia.

Thanks Andrew

I don't think I've ever been able to coordinate my arms and legs in one smooth movement, ever since my days of bottom-shuffling, not crawling! This is all very interesting.
