RADIO SHOWS
Well since there's a thread for TV I thought why not have one for radio as well, especially since many people listen to it, even if it's not as common to chat about what you've heard on the radio as what you've seen on the TV.
What are your favourite stations and programmes? Which plays your favourite music and which keeps you entertained or informed the best?
For music, my favourite stations are:
6 music - ecclectic with largely new, non-chart bands
XFM - indie guitar based music - particular favourite is the X-list, which is request based and features some belting tunes
Radio 3 - classical, world - great to chill to and the home of Andy Kershaw's show
For news I like:
The Today programme, Radio 4 - heavy on the politics, but an informed start to the day
Newshour, BBC World Service - indepth coverage of the world's news headlines often overlooked in the domestic media
PM - my favourite bit being the listeners' e-mails read out on a Friday; very witty!
And for entertainment:
People like us, Radio 4 - hilariously accurate portrayal of the sort of people we often encounter in daily life.
Excess Baggage - essential listening for any would-be globetrotter.
The News Quiz, Radio 4 - actually saw this being recorded once. Very funny look at the week's news.
The Now Show, Radio 4 - biting satire of what's in the news.
Random stuff on BBC 7 - it's a bit hit and miss but there's some corking comedies to be had.
and foreign stuff:
I've long listened to overseas radio stations. Not so much now, but I still do online from time to time. It's a good way of brushing up the language skills, if you've learnt foreign languages and want to keep them practiced. I currently listen to FMVier from Austria from time to time. It's a bizarrely multilingual station with normally a decent playlist.
My least favourite stations are:
Much easier to list! lol!
More or less any local commercial station. Dumbed down content and playlist, playing the same repetitive, safe few songs day after day. Awful!
(apologies to our international friends for whom the above will mean very little!)
Let's have your favourites and recommendations!

I CANNOT stand the white noise on a radio so I didn't listen at all for years. Anyone else uffer that? That my lovely hubby bought me a DAB radio so no white noise for me. Sadly I can never rmemmber how to tune the pre stes and often accidently untune them. But then Dan putes it right for me again! I'll ask him to find 6 music for me - where is ti Daniel? ( yes you have the same name as my hubby!!)

I'm a big fan of Eddie Mair and Old Harry's Game too, Rosel.
I thought Eddie Mair was a great presenter of broadcasting house on Sunday mornings; the perfect mixture of wit and interesting features, without normally being too heavy for that time in the morning! He's taken his style to PM now as well, and it's refreshing to have a sense of humour in a news programm!
Old Harry's Game is, like a lot on BBC7, one of those things I stumble across randomly, but it's very funny and makes some nice comments on society at the same time.

I swear to drunk im not God.....
Women's Hour is ok I suppose, but notsomething I would go out of my way to listen to.
My faveorite thing is Late Junction (Radio 3, Monday-Thursday 10pm-12pm).
It's hard to describe what it is.. but it plays a lot of interesting things including world music, folk music, medieval music...
I love my pink DAB radio!

I mainly listen to things like the news quiz, the now show (punt and dennis are my hero's) but I've actually found myself getting into Steve Right's show, not for the music, but because he has a good way of approaching various different topics. I'm also sad enough to listen to anything about politics, but there you go :p
