Family don't understand me

I feel like people in my family just do not get that I actually do have a medical reason for the way I am. They can't understand things are actually hard for me. I have quite a high responsibility job (teacher in school) and did quite well in school etc (with hard work). However I can't drive, and have made the decision not to drive now after trying for a while. I know in my heart it's not for me and I won't be able to do it. But they just keep on at me to drive and also kind of don't take my dyspraxia seriously.

I think it's amazing that you are a teacher! I think that would be one of my chosen professions if I felt that I could cope.
My family don't understand my difficulties either, so I understand. I try not to explain to them anymore because I know I will end up upset.
When do the difficulties arise? Do they start attacking you?

I think some folks genuinely find it hard to accept Dyspraxia/DCD as a thing.
I recollect previously The Dyspraxia Foundation may have focused on this.
It could also be a topic for The Dyspraxia and Life magazine to draw out experiences - have you considered writing a starter post?

I tried some years ago to tell my family about my ADD and my dyspraxia. They never got it, and never will. I don't bother anymore, and they've dismissed/forgotten it. I don't bother trying anymore. It can be a very lonely place.

They just don't get it and say "get driving" and my friends too! So annoying. I just don't feel safe on the roads I'm not fast enough to react.

My family are the same, they just don't understand. I can drive but avoid motorways if I can as they make me nervous and they say I'm not a real driver. I wanted to teach but failed pgce due to final placement not liking me and now I don't think I could take the pressure anyway.

PGCE is tough I know how that feels. It is very pressured teaching... I'm not gonna lie teaching is hard and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It makes me so anxious and it's definitely stressful. But if you really wanna do it I'm sure you can find a way!! Well done for being able to drive wish I could, it's way too hard for me.
