my jobs too hard! I'm fed up of being knackered and I've been ill with one virus after another since christmas. I don't have enough time/energy laft over for my friends and family and my relationships are suffering as a result. I'm stressed out not sleeping and keep bursting into tears.
AND THIS IS JUST MY STUDENT PLACEMENT
I'lll admit that if I have an easy job I get bored and this job is far from boring. but I thought it would be a fairly easy little pat time job and it's not. I'm doing really hard things and doing them slowly.
I think that's the thing that is really getting me down. I'm too slow at producing work. admittedly no-one has said this to me but the expatation was write landscape plans for all of the Thames parks and I've done 2 of 4 ( and hey both need extra work to make them stand alone documents)
I finish in 10 weeks and if I slog my guts out I may be able to finish. I have however left them with the impression that I may be able to pull another one out of my hat ( yeah right!!)
Oh waily waily woe is me. I don't know what to do!! help?
I'm off to the lakes in 2 weeks so maybe a break will help me to put things into perspactive........
I know how you feel... you are not alone with this... Can you say to your employer that you are struggling and see if they are willing to reduce your work load??? The worse thing you can do is keep on struggling whilst giving the impression that you are coping and taking on more work...
It sounds like you need to make yourself some time for you so that you can re-charge your batteries.... I realise that is easier said than done with a job, family and husband to look after...
Try and relax and enjoy your break in the lakes.
If you want to phone me and have a chat feel free to...
I can really feel for you on this one. So many jobs are high pressured, high stress these days, although I think we're more susceptible to the pressures of the work environment than most. I do what I can to keep my life as utterly simple as possible when I'm working. I think you do marvellously well with your busy life but even the best of us can only manage so much. Don't work yourself to death; as Liz suggested have a word with your manager if necessary and do what you can. At the end of the day many companies will try to squeeze every drop of effort out of their workforce for no extra cost if they can, so try not to feel under too much pressure, realistically plan your day based on what you know you can cope with and stick with that. I understand you want to leave a good impression but second-guessing what the boss might be thinking or expecting of you might not necessarily be worth it.
On the plus side, you're coming up here to the lovely lakes to get away from it all! Not much stress around here aside from the traffic of a Bank Holiday. Do you have any plans in particular where you might be heading? You'd be surprised by just how quiet it can be if you head to some of the lesser know lakes and locations.
Thanks guys - kind words and wise words. I may well phone for a rant Liz. I was Very productive today and got lots done I just know I cant do it everyday! I'm so reluctant to talk to my boss but I guess she'd rather hear ir from me then have me not produce an important document cos I'm snowed oh just remember something I didn't do - bum! oh well
ah yes the lakes, a happy thought. We go with my husbands side of the family - 19 this year! and we do some lovely walks. rebecca and Rose love catbells and dan and I are planning on walk up to sprinkling tarn from Keswick and camping overnight before heading on down and catching the bus back to Keswick where we are staying.
Ruth feel free to phone whenever you want weither to have a rant or a general chat...
It is always wise to add a bit of extra time if you are asked to give a deadline for when work is to be handed in. Then if you finish early it looks good... if not you hand in on time with less of a last minute rush...
However, this ploy does not work if your boss decides your deadline.... unless you can plead you have conflicting deadlines for another peice of work...
I hope that you are not cooking for 19... otherwise you will not have a relaxing break...
you were so right! I had a big meeting on Tuesday and it all went really well but resulted in more work so I had a big wobble and locked myself in the loo for a sob! THen I thought 'but no! my friends said I should try talking ' so I did.
My boss was out but her boss was in and I went aaarrggghhh!! (sort of0 and he said lots of really nice things and now I feel much better about it all! Although I haven't done the quantity of work they were hoping for what I have been is much more in depth so more robust and he's very pleased!
Bidg sighs of relief all round. Still got shedloads to do but I'll just plod along and tick the items of my todo list as I complete them! did one today whhoop!
hello again sorry for the silence! I was in cumbria and it was fab I came back all relaxed except for the minor problem of my lovely hubbys company going into administration and we haven't been paid ! so now he's looking for another job . Great.
No they haven't reduce the workload - my focus is to get the projects to a state where they can stand alone whan I leave rather than getting swept under the carpet.
There will be an on line form for this upcoming consultation ( about My designs and I'm running the consultation) ( aarrggghhhh) and when it's live on Monday I'll try to remember to post a link so you can go ooohh!
