TV: Battlestar Galactica

Post by Daniel »

The finale of series 3 of Battlestar Galactica aired last Sunday in the US. Sky is a few episodes behind, but with the wonders of the internet the latest episodes are available to the world a few hours after airing.

The mini-series pilot and the full three series are available on demand here: http://www.tv-links.co.uk/show.do/1/11

I saw some episodes of the first series and found it slow going I must admit - BSG is following in the popular style of US cult shows of the moment of having a storyline that progressed only very gradually. However I've picked up the story again in series 3 and have really got hooked - to the extent that I've gone back to the first series and am now watching my way through earlier episodes to bring me up to date.

I don't want to go into detail about the series 3 finale in case there are fans on the forum who haven't seen it yet, but it's certainly been one of the strongest episodes so far and leaves a mix of cliffhangers and loose ends to be tied up in the next series.

If you're a fan - how have you been finding the show? And what about the way the whole story is leading?

For those who haven't seen it - although the plot broadly follows that of the original late 70s/early 80s series, it is otherwise vastly superior in every way. Not a camp cylon robot or super intelligent child who appears from nowhere in sight! Instead it's quite a dark series and the plot can be interpreted as quite symbolic - the Guardian featured an article comparing the storyline to the war on terror!

Thoughts and comments please :D

BSG is truely awesome! I've not got sky so haven't seen all of series three yet but have been watching via tv-links lol! (though they were slow uploading the last few days because of an attack on their servers).

I um may moderate the battlestar gallactica group on myspace... *looks shifty* oh and Pascalagia on the OST has um good rhythm... for um things... ;)

I'd also rather like to kidnap the lovely Sam Anders.... :)

I have to say I quite liked some of the slow going bits as the series builds up to a fantastic bout of action (that is all of them - especially the first) i mean the season finaleis truely awesome and an over action packed series would ruin a lot of the narrative tension and intrigue of the story as a whole :) (which gets me thinking about narrative vs spectacle in film/ tv but that'sbecasue my sister had me proof reading her finals essays for journaism....)

Huge fan myself here, so I can't wait!

Yes I read about that on one of the web forums. Should help tide us over until series 4!

The 2 hour special is a look at pegasus's story of survival from when the invasion happened on caprica to its demise.

Its going to be truly epic.

BSG is just about my favourite current show, at least on a par with Lost, if not better! (and from a purely pervy POV, Starbuck and Roslin are rather hot! :-# )
