Dyspraxic Adults

Probably strange but does anyone else on here suffer with smiling? If someone tries to take a pic of and I try to smile I can't not properly anyway it likes I can't relax my mouth muscles properly. The only way I can naturally smile is by if somebody makes me laugh. This has always been a daft but real problem in my life and wondered if its dyspraxia related. Anyone else have any experience of this I googled it and it could potentially apraxia does anybody have knowledge of these subjects?

Come to think of it that's the same for me! as every photo i have taken looks like i'm gurning when i attempt to smile & i cannot show my teeth when i do it as it makes it look worse. So for years without realizing i don't even try now & just look straight ahead.

Funny how that seems to be the same for two of us I wonder if anybody else will have the same experience, thanks for sharing your situation.

For me its the other way around; I always sort of half-smile no matter how I actually feel, because I find it (pshycially) uncomfortable to make a lot of other facial expressions. I think its a muscular thing.

Well I happen to be really quite unphotogenic and couldn't strike a pose or natural smile in front of a camera if my life depended on it. I'd usually go to any lengths to avoid having photographs taken of me because I know I'll look like a complete gimp in it. It has to be for a really good friend for me to 'reluctantly' pose with or for.

I think the last time I actually happily stood or posed for a portrait of myself this was the result...



No joke either, that really is me in there, but thankfully no one can see my silly gurn of a grin

I've had a lot of practise with smiling so it's not so bad for me. I used to watch americas next top model a lot and practise 'posing' a lot when I was younger. Plus my Jamaican side of the fam happen to smile with their teeth mainly and so do I. But I'm quite open minded in how I think (not the organisation of it!) so I can tell when I'm not smiling well. It's a strange thing that I'm a aware of!

And I thought it was just me. The number of times my wife has told me to smile and not go about with a blank face. When I think about it and manage / control the situation I smile, when I behave in a dyspraxic way without remembering to smile, which is sadly really natural for me, the blankness comes back. Let alone posing for the camera!!!
