Disclosing on Application

Hello :)

I am 22 years old and looking for work in the restaurant industry right now. I have lots of experience, and am unsure about disclosing Dyspraxia on my application? I know it's that terrible catch-22 where I want them to know but if I say I have a disability they might discriminate. I know they can't legally, but it must happen.

I'm applying right now for a job at the Hilton. It doesn't have any room for what kind of disability, just asks whether I consider myself to have one. I can't help but think that it must be possible that a lot of people with disabilities are filtered out by the system but then it's just blamed on some other reasoning.

What does everyone think? I would want to disclose it at some point - I have specific needs and while they are easy they are something which not everyone does, ie giving instructions on paper, stopping and telling me to do something not shouting over their shoulder etc. I am also aware that if I do not disclose it and it affects my job, they could dismiss me for NOT disclosing it. Should I just wait til they give me an interview? Til I have a job?

Any advice would be appreciated.
xxx

I'd disclose it on the form even if it doesn't seemingly have a specific place for it.

For example in the part that says "Do you consider yourself to have a disability" put "Yes, I have mild Dyspraxia".

As I've written somewhere else, I don't tend to put it down... whether it's good or not I don't know for sure. It's just a pain if you don't say anything and when you're slower to do/pick up on some things colleagues presume you're thick. Though to be honest even putting dyspraxic wouldn't change that in certain jobs. Sorry, that's not helpful! #-o

I work for the NHS and have disclosed it for my current job.... but no one has asked me anything about it, I wish they had because I am really struggling, so really would not worry about disclosing, although may be different in the private sector.

I have put it on application forms, sometimes it has helped because I met the minimum criteria for the job I applied for, even though after that has not helped. Employment agencies have helped found me temporary position with companies in the past, but I keep applying for jobs but had no luck.

I had to fill out a medical questionnaire after getting my job and chose there to admit it, making sure I put it will not effect how I perform in the role!! :)
