Making small talk

I'm guessing this is something many of us find difficult so last night while I was kept awake by either the police or hospital helicopters landing I had a brainwave of starting this topic.
Whilst I'm lucky I have knowledge of 'geeky' thing I'm interested in, I'm not into what I guess are the classic geeky things. I'm visually impaired so don't drive and find the 'blokey' subject of cars is all a little pointless to me. Really don't care much at all for sport either. If I'm not felling too under pressure I can pluck all kinds of odd facts from my mind which I retain for quizzes and do like to know at least a bit about many things so I can be helpful and useful.
Problem is my mind goes blank and I become tongue tied when I do need to try and give a good account of myself and/or I always feel that I'm on the outside looking in.
Guess that's it for now as can't think of anything more to say which maybe illustrates my point a little 8-)
Just thought I'd start a topic in hope it's in someway helpful to others too.
