ok, so because i'd been having problems with my evening course, i told my tutor that there was a good possibility that i'm dyspraxic.
he was very understanding and said that he'd look into whether the college can do anything. i wasn't expecting much as i'm just an evening student but he told me last week that i'd be entitled to some sort of assessment (i don't think it's a proper assessment, but i think they'd be able to tell me if i am dyspraxic or not and if i'd be entitled to extra time on college tests and stuff...my tutor should be telling me more at my next class).
but, since then i've been worrying about this assessment, about what it's going to involve and whether i'm even dyspraxic at all. i dunno....i really think i am, but my boyfriend thinks i'm making it all up and i'm scared he's right...i'm just really doubting myself. it's probably just because i have no self esteem and i'm just being silly but it's playing on my mind a lot.
did anyone else feel the same way when they were assessed? or did people just know that they were dyspraxic?
doubting myself...

Ive never had an assessment but I spent 18 months doubting if I had dyspraxia, from when I realised it was a possibility.
I had all the facts in front of me from all the reading I did. In that time I had 2 boyfriends who doubted me, one in particular wouldnt believe me at all.
I have finally accepted that like it or not I do have dyspraxia. I have known for 3 years now.
It can be really difficult to accept especially if your boyf does doubt you. My now fiance saw that I was dyspraxic and believed me, and thats what finally made me accept that I have it....I still have trouble accepting myself this way, but I also am certain that I have it.
If you think you have dyspraxia Im sure the tests will help to confirm it, and hopefully prove to your boyf that you arent making it up. I cant speek from a assessment point of view, but I cant really think why anyone would convince themselves they had dyspraxia if there wasnt damn good reason for it.
Good luck, I really know how difficult this part is.

I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down

yeah, it is starting to upset me that he doesn't believe me at all. to begin with i just thought "fine, i just won't talk to him about it" as my mum and a couple of my close friends are being very helpful and supportive. but i got quite upset when i decided to tell him that i'd be having this test thing and he just changed the subject.
the most annoying thing is that the things that he playfully teases me about are things to do with dyspraxia, for instance, my difficulties with stairs.
but apart from him not believing me about this, he is wonderful and he's been incredibly supportive with everything else in my life.
anyway...i've got college tomorrow so hopefully my tutor will be able to tell me abit more.

I think the worst part is the not knowing stage, because I was relieved when I came across my assessment in my medical records, some 19 years later, but still!
if only we knew then what we know now thanks to lovely technology called the internet!!!
then I wouldn't have been able to read about it, and I wouldn't have questioned it, and I possibly wouldn't have gone to view my medical records,
but I did know the gp at the time wasn't telling us anything, and if it wasn't for the internet, then I wouldn't have found out more about the symptoms of dispraxia, and I don't think I would have viewed my medical records for possibly another few years.
I am appaulled to think your bf, doesn't think, or like you talking about it! I didn't like talking about it as a kid, possibly because it was the same questions about 500 times!
but a bf, is supposed to stand by you and all of that,
my father knows about my condition now, but still can't understand how I am feeling some of the time, like not well enough to drive on a specific day.
due to being totally physically drained, or my headache like it is going to explode at any moment!
try to look on the brightside, once you have the tests done, then you will know, and think well at least you know instead of being uncertain.
good luck if you haven't had the tests done yet rah
