One of the things we suffer from as Dyspraxics is depression and anxiety, caused by our fustration to deal with certain aspectics of our disability.I'm sure many of us have tried different forms of therapy, antidepressants and counselling which has helped us with our difficulties, some of it has worked others are still struggling, but I personally was getting fustrated that my anxiety will always hinder my my life and aspirations, well ALL has changed. I've been on a personal development course run by Gal stiglitz who uses the Demartini Method to completely remove deep feelings of depression and anxiety. Dr John Demartini is a expert behavioural specialist who travels the world helping individuals to live a more balanced life, his method to release depression/anxiety is revolutionary and will help many people who are suffering to live stress free lives.
I was VERY SKEPTICAL about this method at first because I been in therapy and antidepressants for so long and didn't think it would work, but the Demartini method has TOTALLY changed my life. I no longer have the negative chatter in my head, I sleep better, I'm more focused and have better relationships with my family and work colleagues, I feel more positive my dyspraxia will not set me back from reaching my goals and living my life to the full.
Has anybody else used the Demartini method?

Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Never heard of this one its sounds to good to be true, I would be very sceptical on this if it is so marvellous I thought it would be better well known and used more world wide to help people .If it works for you than that is great .
But I would still be very wary. Watched him on you tube so maybe this is practised more in the USA ,People I have asked in the UK have never heard of him and his methods.Dont know whether any of our other members have heard of him or tried this one out ,would be interesting to find out especially those in the UK.

Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Joy, when I was introduced to the Method that is exactly what I said, it's too good to be true. I have had previously been in therapy for over 10 years, and had been on antidepressants for a number of years, so as I said before I was very skeptical about whether the Demartini method would work, but it definately did
and DrDemartini explains how it works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmzuSmgraQo
The Demartini method is known in the world of psychology, business development and he travels the world helping individuals through a programme called the "Breakthrouh Experience".Gal Stiglitz does a similar programme in the UK, which is a 10 week programme and it works through your emotional blocks within this time frame. http://foundationsprogramme.com/gal-stiglitz-2/. Gal has worked under and with John Dermatini. Many individuals people who've done the Demartini method have experienced profound changes in their life, they feel free to move the lives on without the emotional blocks hindering them.
Yes I might sound preachy, but compared to living a life of severe anxiety and depression for a number of years, I never felt so liberated

Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
I haven't looked into it, is it designed to deal with symptoms of the anxiety or the root causes?
If its the former then I'd agree that there are defiantly some very good anxiety management techniques out there, I myself do a number of directed breathing exercises and that seem to help.
If its the latter I'm personally always a little skeptical, I'd just say that I have suffered from bouts of anxiety and depression my whole life (on and off pills etc) and I would love for there to be an easy one size fits all answer to depression but I just don't think there is (not for me at least).
I've read about positive thinking, and expectation management systems but ultimately they seem to rely on you being told by an expert that this will work for you and because your looking for an answer you believe it, many of them seem to use a certain amount of NLP as well.
As I've always said the human mind is the single most complex lump of matter in the known universe as such our anxieties/depression are formed of both our neurological make-up and our life times experience they are part of who we are.
As such I don't think they can be broken down by a sort of "broad spectrum psychology" in ten weeks.
This is not to say I don't believe in the psychology I'm in counselling myself and I find it does help to talk, but I've excepted i'm in it for the long haul and there aren't going to be any miraculous changes so to speak.
But then what do I know
these are just my opinions I'm no psychologist.
If it worked for you more power to you, maybe this old hyper cynical depressive should take a look at the evidence before commenting further

Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Thanks CaptainLudd
The 10 week course is a Foundation course that helps you to utilise tools to help yourself to overcome anxiety, so it's not a quick fix solution, but it certainly clears out blocks that are hindering your life.
All I can say I definately feel different and now have the tools to prevent the negative thoughts of anxiety and depression from stopping me to live a full life.
I'm glad I tried it, because my life is a lot different then I 've been for many years.

ultimately that's what countsEuphena wrote:I'm glad I tried it, because my life is a lot different then I 've been for many years.
Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Hi euphena. How much does this cost
Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Joy, it cost me just over £2,000 pounds, (I'm paying in installments) yes it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. I would have paid more, the profound effect this course has made on my ife is nothing compared how I was over the past 5 years, I am free from anxiety, I know how to cope with life's stresses better. There will always be challenges ahead of me, but my approach with dealing with them will not be as reactionary as I'd previously had done when I was under a lot of stress and fustration.
Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Hi Euphena
That seems a awful lot of money to fork out in the hope that it will work for you. Many Dyspraxics have often complained that the job they are doing is not always suitable for them and many are on a low wage and some because of their disability may not work at all.
My son went through a different programme were they take you back to the beginning of when your reflexes began
When the USA national Aeronautics started the moon programme to help astronauts acclimatise to space conditions they introduced spinning and bouncing techniques which took away all normal sensations of gravity and position in space.
Taking a leaf of the American programme the place were my son went developed a exercise programme in a attempt to develop reflexes in the inner ear chances are if they worked for astronauts in space they would also work for people with balance problems, these techniques attempt to develop reflexes in the inner ear.
Specific exercises were developed depending the results of about 2 hours of testing and examination which are tailored to your needs ,everyone is different so exercises differ from person to person, these exercises are done in a variety of positions, prone, supine, sitting ,moving up and down and blindfolded while being spun around to increase your tolerance, Eye tests were done to see if you have any problems in fixating on a object to see if you had perceptual problems ,too many to mention, also to see if you are cross laterally,as well as hearing tests ,which often requires to listen to some weird tones and music ,this usually takes over about 18 months , and that cost over 1000 pounds .It is such a pity that all these alternative treatments are not available on the NHS. i didn't go on the programme myself I found different ways of coping with anxiety and stress and am a lot better than I used to be,so its each to their own. My son s balance improved and so did his stamina were he often used to complain of feeling really tired when the blood sugar dropped low ,he could tolerate it for much longer, his right foot used to turn in causing him to fall over regularly is now in a more normal position and he seldom falls over now.He has only ever had two panic attacks and that was about 13 years ago,I dont think the word anxiety is in his vocabulary as he is quite laid back ,I always say you dont know how lucky you are. Although he will always be psychologically at risk because of dyspraxia ha seems to be coping well.

Re: Demartini Method to combat Depression/Anxiety
Hi Joy
Thank you for your reply. Yes it is expensive, but I felt the benefits far outweighed the expense, because the Demartini is life changing. I can't put into words how effective it is as I'll be accused of being a little too evangelical, probably you'll have to talk others who have done the programme.
The method is currently being used successfully within the private psychology sector, however it will eventually be made availble on the NHS.
The Demartini is currently used within the prison service in South Africa and the US with great success. In business Richard Branson and top CEO's are using the method for better communication and business success.
I have no regrets doing the programme. I will keep you posted on how I'm doing.
