Hate that Shaky Cam!

Post by Valkyrie »

I'm wondering if the reason that I hate this sudden mania for shaky camerawork upsetting is because I'm dyspraxic. It's used excessively in films and now in documentaries. I was watching the natural history live programme 'Winter Watch' and, although not too bad, the cameras were going in and out and side to side which was insane as the presenters were stationary. I did laugh during a Stargazing Live show as one of the lady guests looked very annoyed when the camera zoomed up to her. Her face was a picture! So it can be also intimidating for interviewees.

I find it makes me feel wobbly and like my eyes are going round! It totally ruins films and documentaries for me and I just can't concentrate. I often have to close my eyes so I can listen and take things in. I know that it can affect those without dyspraxia, but I'm curious to know if upsets dyspraxics more than usual.

Please let me know whether it bothers you, and also if not, so I can get an idea.

I find that shaky camera moves were for the amature, or those with balance/hand problems. I hated watching what I had recorded. it is why I ended up buying a tripod for my video camera, so that it could be in a fixed place. but still find problems with scenic views, like a panaramic view of all around.

but it does seem to be more common with shoddy cameraman work these days. so tend to only watch videos on youtube and stuff that is professionally done with counter weighted camera arms. so that it stops things like shaky cameras like being in a truck which will pick up every little indent in the road, and magnify it by about 10x into the cab.
