I was a classic clumsy child in the 70s and found things like riding a bike or catching a ball virtually impossible. My handwriting was so bad was referred for special needs but actually I have a good intellect and went on to get high qualifications and a professional career. Now at 40 I have started to wonder if I have been dyspraxic all along - I do not recognise some of the things talked about here but still have lots of fine motor problems and recently have developed a real difficulty with walking on shiny or steep surfaces. Most physical activity confuses me and I have to think about how I can use things like a garden spade as it does not seem natural....!
what do people think? does it sound like dyspraxia? I often feel my brain doesn't work like other peoples when it comes to physical stuff - I try to imagine things like doing a handstand in my head but my brain can't work out where my limbs should go!

Re: to introduce myself
It defuntly sounds like dyspraxicia - what your describing is commen symptions, thies do differ from dyperaxic person to dyspraxic person. Each dyspraxic person has a unique set of dyspraxic issues realted to them so its not surprising that you dont reconsise or may relate to all that is disscused on hear.
Dyspraxicia is not somthing contained to age - you dont grow out of it exactly but it can get easer.
Anyway welcome to the forum - this is a grate place to find out infomation about dyspraxicia and to get help etc.

thanks for the message tim - you have no idea (or maybe you have) of how nice it is when someone says yes i think there is a reason you have these problems....so thank you
Re: to introduce myself
I do know how good it is to have somone agnolage you issues and say that its beceuse of this - it gives a answer for so many things not a excuse but a answer and some agnolagment and grounding to know what is going on.
With this you can then take it further and get help, advice relate to others in the same situation etc.

Hi Ruth
It certainly does sounds like you have Dyspraxia. I only found out about it myself a couple of years ago but it was such a relief to know that their were reasons behind my problems.
