Feeling useless

Post by bookish »

Does anyone else have days where they just feel completely useless?

I’ve had too many days recently where everything just goes wrong because of stupid mistakes on my part.

I completely forgot about a meeting I was meant to have with my dissertation tutor today. She’s rightly angry at me especially as to be honest I’ve done barely any work on my dissertation and she knows this.

I just keep forgetting things, turning up late, staring at blank pages for hours and not doing anything.

I’ve never had a job I’m good at and I’ve never had a serious boyfriend. I’m not depressed and normally I’m quite optimistic but it does feel like everything in life is an uphill struggle.

Does anyone else just get the feeling they’re a bit useless? How do you cope with bad days?

Yep I have had really bad days especially at work that make me feel that I cant do anything right. As part of my job I got lost to a house I have been to five times already and couldn't follow directions both verbally and someone pointing where to go, different set of direction though and have had other Dyspraxic related problems.

This is quite hard for coping. I did write down a lot of suggestions like writing notes down but you could lose them. Bringing a folder with you and write the important things where you can see it, at the front of your folder, but you could forget it or leave it behind.

For me though I use post-it-notes. If I need to remember an appointment or something small I write down the details and put that note somewhere where I know that I will see it like the fridge. I also try and laugh at things that happen, like needing to be reminded again where things go.

If I need to fill out an application form or need to do an important piece of writing, I tend to reward my self so then I know I will get a treat for doing a page of work or something like that. I also try and break down the work, I do not do this, but it helps if you do a little each day until ta-da you have managed to complete your work.

But you are not useless. Trust me :) you will find a job where you feel like you are doing really good. It will just take time and patience. Ive been fired three times! and finally been successful in this one so I know that it can happen, being accepted and finding you are suitable for a job.

I hoped that helped, if not a lot just a little is good and dont let Dyspraxia get you down or get you discouraged, it is a pain and a battle but it is ultimately a battle that we could get through with determination.

Thanks shadowgirl, it did help! I know re-reading my post that it was just a giant rant really. I'm just a bit stressed out so little things feel a lot worse.

I know what you mean about not knowing where your going even though you've been there before, some friends of mine have lived in the same house for 2 years now in the town i grew up and even though i'm round there at least once a fortnight and it's a ten minute walk from my parents i have to follow directions every time.

Anyway thanks for replying it was a really bad day for no reason, hearing other people with similar problems always breaks me out of feeling sorry for myself. :)

That is ok, whats this website for if its not to rant and share stories. Kind of therapeutic in a way.

I hope you are feeling more positive, I think once that day is over and you get some sleep you get a bit more insight on how you are handle the day and learn from any mistakes you make. E.G I always now before I leave check to see if I have everything. Of course I have to be reminded at times to check my bag  but I always try and check.

Its ok, besides its what we are all here for. People seem to understand one another and do not say things like "well we all get lost, forget thing every now and again"
