Hi I'm Pete, 38
I have dyspraxia and dyslexia though my dyspraxia is the main thing. I am 38, live in Liverpool. I got formally diagnosed 14th April 2005 at 1500hrs...! whist a student nurse doing my diploma. I am now a qualified staff nurse though my employers find it very difficult to support me at present and are back at the drawing board on how best to support to me....sound familar anyone...!
I find it amazing how many people have never heard of dyspraxia and usually say dont you mean dyslexia and end up having to explain what the difference is though a small number of people completely understand it is and how it impacts on me.
In my past life I went school always playing catch up, never any good at sport though occasionally (Once in a blue moon) perform a good bit of skill playing football, could never catch a ball. Forever told off about my scuffy handwriting, being late etc.
I joined the army as a combat medic in 1991 and went to a few war zones (Croatia, Bosnia, N.Ireland) and left the army 1998 though in truth I missed some aspects of army life and joined the TA army medical services were I did more operational tours in war zones (Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan) and recently transfered to the Army nursing corps and will be going back out to afghanistan next year.
I did get bullied as a kid, in school and to some degree in the army.
I am currently trying to set up a Dyspraxia Support Group in Liverpool so if anyone is interested in attending face to face meetings please contact me on peterkeegan55@hotmail.com or call me on 07984 136868 be aware that I work shifts so I don't answer your message staright away I am probably at work, currently I am not doing nights so don't worry about calling during the day.
The idea of the support group will be to support each other, provide information, swap ideas and make fellow dyspraxics not feel isolated.

Hello,
Just stumbled across this page, and as it has revelance to me, as I suffer from Dyspraxia, and have been looking for more information in general on this I took a look. I wanted to know if you had managed to get anywhere with starting a group up in Liverpool, as it's something that I'd be interested in looking at.
If you could let me know that would be great, thanks.

Hi
Still interested in attending a Dyspraxia group in Liverpool? If so let me know as I am thinking of going through official channels (Dyspraxia Foundation) and formally setting up a group. Liaising with other groups across the country and other groups who represent peoples other difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD etc.
I will be looking to set up end of October possibly.
