Hi everyone!

Hiya,

Before I introduce myself I just want to say how ace it is that you lot are here!!! Makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not on my own.

My name is Andrea, I live near to Manchester and I'm 30. I work in Accounts and I go to College part time to study for my AAT qualification.

Like some of you, I have been having a lot of trouble learning to drive (12 months and £2000 lighter and I still can't work the clutch!) So in a bid to work out why this might be I turned to Google and found this forum and also the Dyspraxia foundation. I have to say... it's like someone turned on a light! I have about 85% of the symptoms listed by the foundation but for me the most difficult aspect is the emotional side of the condition and the coping mechanisms I have put in place over the years to hide my problems.

I haven't been diagnosed yet but I have an appointment with my GP in the morning to hopefully set the ball rolling.

I'll pop back tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

And xx

Thanks for the welcome! I'll have a look but I reckon automatic is the answer for me (and for the safety of those who live in my town ;) )

I had my appointment this morning and I'm being referred to a specialist (not sure of what type, I'll get a letter soon) I was made up my GP knew what I was talking about. Although she did seem very surprised that the symptoms I described hadn't been picked up by anyone before. I think maybe thats down to me being so crafty about hiding what I can't do and not drawing attention to my differences for the last 25 years. Maybe I should get in touch with MI5 and see if they need a wobbly, socially inept super spy. :-k

She tested my reflexes (knocking my knees, elbows and wrists) muscle and joint resistance (I had to push and pull against her with my fingers, arms, legs and feet) and my range of vision (I had to focus on her nose with one eye covered while she brought her finger into my field of vision from top and then bottom) I'm not sure if this is typical of others experiences but I thought it might be useful to compare notes! She also noticed that I have a pretty severe tremor so that may have been part of what got me my referral. (I know this is a hereditary essential tremor as my Dad was diagnosed with it last year)

Reading through this forum has been so helpful in showing me that there are folk who move and think like me. I hope I can repay the favour by describing my experiences.
