Fears, phobias and anxieties.

Post by Bear_ate_my_coffee »

. Hello everyone.

Many people have some sort of fear or anxiety about something and was wonder if anyone would willing to share any they have or just wanna chat about the psychology in fears.

I have a genuine interest in the topic and suffer from many fears/phobias myself. 8-[

My fears/phobias/anxieties Include

-Agoraphobia: Fear of public, wide open spaces and/or unfamiliar places. My Agoraphobia is not bad enough to be completely house bound but I avoid leaving my house as much as possible can NOT leave my 'safety zone' or be in a crowd.

-Elevators. I HATE them. I freak out that it's going to breakdown and I'll be stuck inside for a longtime or that the cables will snap.

-Crossing roads that have any traffic on them, even if the traffic isn't that much. Even when the road is clear I'm afraid a car will appear out of nowhere and run me down.

-Crossing a bridge. I'm fear the bridge will break and I will fall to my death.

-The dark. I'm embarrassed to admit but even at my age I'm still as terrified of the dark as I was when I was a little child. I sleep with the light on and during the night I keep a battery run portable light near me in case of blackout *looks over to light sitting on computer desk*.

-The paranormal

-Saying any noun three times out loud. Don't ask because I don't even understand why.

-and probably some others that I can't remember right now.

Sorry if I have bored you.

Scary swwirlly carpet - again the feet eating thing

The dark - landing light is enough we had a blackout and I freaked a bit scared the crap out of my kids ooppss! :-#

Under my bed - now have a bed with drawers hah!

The sound of the toilet flushing at night - cos if there are any monsters around they will know you're awake - we just don't do it in my houise

the sound of metal on metal - not really a phobia but a very intense hate

that'll do for now, who else??

Small fiddly things, especially kinder toys or mcdonalds toys, small sweets, those plastic toys you get in crackers, small packets of sweets ( I still can't eat individually wrapped reese's peanut butter cups ), little bits of paper like those left over from rolled tobacco, small bits of plastic from those warhammer type games.

I can normally be ok if the item is simple eg a dice. But if its fiddly, or greasy, it just feels "dirty" in my hands and I can't relly touch it.

I dont like beign closed in. I dont mean like lifts. Its wierd but whenever Im in the cinema, I have to sit at the end of the row. I cant sit between teo people. On the bus/train/tram I dont like people sitting next to me and I dont like just being touched sometimes. I go all funny sometimes.

Much the same as everyone else....

Crowds of people - hate public transport in London.... or walking down Oxford street.
University when there are crowds of people or hemmed in during lectures.
Shopping in Sainsbury's especially at checkouts (probably due to the fact I used to work there...) tend not to want to even go there even if it is not the store I worked in...
Spiders if I don't know they are there...
Wasps or bees...

I guess I would probably be most afraid of snakes. I can touch them as long as I know they aren't the harmful kind, but I just am afraid of the really big or really poisonous ones.

Also, afraid of ghosts a little because I have heard the tales about ghosts at our school. It's kinda scary when I am in the building they say is haunted at night. I try not to go there at night.

You guys have phobias that are so normal!

I'm afraid of very little nowadays because of the whole skydiving SCUBA thing. If anything, when I know I am doing something I percieve to be risky nowadays if you give me a few seconds to nervously laugh it out then I'm ok.

HAving said that, I do have an irrational fear of baked beans, I don't like them being near me at all, even on someone else's plate.

phobia's

Post by wendel »

I heard of someone who had a phobia of Banana's. My phobia's are very normal compared to that

Im scared of sleeping on my own in the dark since there was a ghost in my room. I think he is there sometimes when I'm on my own so I have to have the light on. I guess it's finding out the guy next door killed himself .I do have a pretty overactive imagination.so it's probably nothing

the dentist: pretty obvious why
Any kind of medical staff who do things other than talk to you.
Just the idea of needles or worse sends me in a panic
I used to work in a hospital so have no faith in them at all

I used to be scared of escalators because my mom told me how she fell of one when she was a child and she was really badly hurt.

Heights. Not chairs or anything like that. It has to be pretty high
I guess that's pretty normal

I cant bear needles, I just dont have injections unless absolutly necessary. Theres tons of vac I have never had and if I must have an injection I need diazapam 1st and a gel that numbs my arm. I also hate all doc/hospital/dentist related things and wasps, but nothing is as terrifying as needles.
