Social habits and addictions
What are your perception on alchohol, smoking and pot??? There a huge deal in society and how can they effect people like us?... Wb

Re: Social habits and addictions
I don't drink alchohol because I don't like the taste of it. I have never smoked or tried pot. I know that there are many reasons why people drink and smoke and that it is very hard to stop smoking once you have started. My Dad smokes and he has tried to give up once or twice and has been very short tempered and difficult to live with.

Re: Social habits and addictions
I'll have the odd drink now and again, but because my partner doesn't drink, I'm more restrained than I was when I was single and studently. I don't like being out of control and, having tested my limits, know how much I can have of something before I'm at the unpleasant stage. I also am not a fan of the fact that it makes my already overactive bladder even worse than nomal, and I can be popping to the loo every 15 minutes if I drink pints - not dignified!
I abhor smoking - probably stems from the fact that it makes my asthma very bad, and I got bronchitis as a direct result of being in a smoke-filled environment for an entire day (my dad's friend chain smoked when he was alive and must have got through 80+ in the time I was in his house that day...) when I was younger. It stinks too. And I detest the fact that people who would not otherwise consider littering find it perfectly acceptable to drop their fag-ends on the pavement - it actually gives me mad rages when I see someone do it and it's a good job I'm not a violent person or I, well, I won't go onto it on here, but it wouldn't be very nice! I could never live with a smoker. It's weird, as a lot of my closest friends are smokers, and I never try and preach to them (they're all intelligent enough to know better, but they enjoy it so who I am to try and convince them otherwise).
I've got no personal experience with dope, I know plenty of people who have, but it's never appealed to me. Again, the not being in control thing, but also I always heard that it makes you really sick the first time you try it. As I can't stand vomit (seeing fake spew on TV makes me want to hurl myself), I've made the decsion that I'm never going to bother. Only exception I might make would be if I was in pain, for its perceived relieving qualities, although as with ciggies, the idea of smoking something is pretty horrible.

Re: Social habits and addictions
I have used many drugs... Though I don't think it's something to brag about, I don't regret the experience...
I don't drink a lot of alcohol these days, but used to be a problem drinker and had a warning off the doctor that I was on the way to maybe getting worse problems. I have been an extremely heavy drinker and put myself in dangerous situations and messed friendships... These days if I am honest, I am bored of alcohol... In fact, I am bored of most stuff.
I used to be a heavy smoker (sometimes 1 pack of tobacco a day!), but I stopped two years ago... Then started briefly when I got depressed last winter. So now and again I'll have a cigarette, but not normaly around non-smokers..
I used to smoke pot heavily too... I went through a period where I'd get up at 12pm, go over to my mate's council flat up the road, smoke pot for a few hours and then go to a pub and get wasted. I dunno where I got the money in retrospect. But it mashed my brain for a while and I feel happier without it. I don't normally bother with cannabis these days...
I have used pills on several occasions and really enjoyed them. They can be hit and miss, but good pills feel awesome, though I started to get come downs and I stopped. I don't think they are as bad as people say and there are very few deaths linked to pills (the ones tend to be where people have mixed drugs). I'm afraid to say, I have no bad experience of pills or MDMA, but I doubt I'd do them again because I never have time to rest the next day.
I have also used psychedelics... 2ci and magic mushrooms. They were interesting, but mushrooms were not especially nice to me. I had intense experience on mushrooms and my brain felt bashed around...
I would say the drug I have worse experience with is alcohol... I also have alcoholism in the family. I think I'd like to be tee total one day, especially now I am getting interested in Buddhism. I definately think alcohol is the worse and tobacco is also pretty bad. I think that it depends on the person too...
I'm not on the 'drugs are bad' band wagon... I'm in the "I've tried drugs and I'm pretty neutral" train because I have seen all kinds of things happen and I used to be in a less than legal crowd!
For dyspraxia though I don't think it's great for the days after the drug if you have a come down and also, you can fall over when wasted.

Re: Social habits and addictions
Well alot of people are against them then, even Gps and Counciler disaprove anyone taking it or even hanging out with someone or being around someone who does. I was told that there are other ways off coping with stress in or problems then taking any of them and that they only cover up issues and could even make it worse.
It is a fact that lots of celebs have died young from using drugs or and drug abuse.
Am I abnormal for not taking part in any of that then??? I have been very drunk once and I was all over my boyfriend as a result. Had half a bottle to save a friend of mine who drank two bottles one night.

I don't drink at all, I have tried but I honestly hated it and my body does not respond well to it. Once I only had a tiny sip of vodka and I got a massive migraine. I don't smoke but my Dad does and refuses to give up. It's vile, I hate it. I'm glad when he is not here and I have the house to myself because it's a lovely, clean atmosphere. As for drugs, I haven't got a clue why anybody would want to go down that downhill slope.

Re: Social habits and addictions
I enjoy going to the pub with mates and love a few select drinks (although gradually expanding my wine/cocktail horizon). I've never smoked tobacco, but i'm not fussed by the mates who smoke and will always sit outside with them due to indifference to it. My drug history consists of a few things, but none of them are an addiction, and some I will never do again due to messed up experiences (acid being the main one).
Re: Social habits and addictions
I don't drink very often, usually it is at home when I do, and then just 1 or 2 cans when I do, so usually the other 2 or 3 have matured before I feel like drinking again!! as for going to a pub, then usually end up paying for the most expensive (soft) drinks!! as I would much rather drive than drink, so don't goto the pubs very often, unless there is some other reason.
as for smoking, yes I do have about 15 fags a day, but with smoking rollies then can cut it down to one every 2 hours, so like 5-6 a day. I am better when I haven't got other smokers around me.
as for pot, then never tried, and not going to try.

@Bounce I was very interested to read your experience of hallucnagenes on some one with Dysxpria . Ive never been a drug user myself (worse crime i have is caffine and sugar
)and had been wanting to try LSD or mushrooms. Though haivng read Robert A Wilson and Tim Leary the affects are based on your psychological structures and enviroment you perform in so ... .a clinical experiment in the making there .
As for drug use ... knowledge and moderation. I didn't start drinking till i was about 25 , just no taste and now of got a bit bored with it (a plus side i find of the Dyspraxia) . Alcohol with meals or small drops no problems. We just have to discover why we need teh substance and what reason we use it ? When you use recreational stuff do you know all your allergies is it impure what will it do to you or react with ?
To be fair i think Tobacco, alcohol and sugar are our worest ones
(he says supping a class of a brown fizzy liquid
)

Re: Social habits and addictions
I'm okay with alcohol i don't normally drink and when i do it's normally at home with a dvd or at the occasional party and that's as rare as seeing a herd of elephants going into london. As for smoking and other drugs, i am totally against them completely.

I sometimes get easy other times I don't not sure its linked to dyspraxia but do thing its linked to your state of mind, stress levels and type of and how much food you have had to eat.

Re: Social habits and addictions
I propably should have posted this here lol . I have been taking Piracetam for the last couple of days and seen a massive increase in touch smell and taste sense as well as a nice calming controlled outlook . I shoudl say this is as a consenting adult and the drug is not illegal in this country (sold sometimes as a sport's supplement )
