Coping with Dyspraxia
What do Occupational Therapists do for adults with Dyspraxia and what are the benefits? I need to improve my house keeping and Spatial skills. Which proffessionals should I be assesed by? I live in Sligo town? I can read write, I feel indecisive about my career, I don't fully understand the whole procedure of bills and how to get part time work. I have had two psychological assesement and one meeting with an Occupational Therapist? So what are my goals as a person with Dyspraxia? I mean what way should I go about receiving my requirements? I am very confused. I am a committed relationship and have a constant habit of mentioning my exes to him but I don't know why. Please accept my cry for help and I hope you can give me some advice.WB xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Amy,
You have all the information in your head like myself, but can not organise it!?
Have you tried mind mapping your thoughts...this will help seperate them and also give you a linear flow on one certain thing, e.g.
seeking the correct advice
-Take advice from doctor
-Educational Psychologist
-Occupational thearapist
-Friends and family(who know what your like)
-Own advice
---What can I do well
---What am I bad at
------I am not good working in groups
---What difficulty can I work around
---what will aid me
---what qualifications do I have
---What qualifications do i want
The above is a mind map using a list style, but pictures may be more useful.
Also, like myself you are trying to solve too many issues at once, prioritising task is a really useful thing to do every day. Lots of the stuff you mention will take time and require lots of little tasks to make the outcome succesful.
I am more than happy to help you on as much of these matters as you feel comfortable to look at!
I am currently in the process in working to a new future because of the difficulties my dyspraxia caused in my teaching. However, in lots of your areas mentioned I am now stable and continuing to work well!
Keep your chin up, every day can be exciting you haven't got any problems just tasks to work on. See it as a challenge and embrase it!
Hope this helps and if I can help you any further please let me know!
Best regards
Pompom

Re: Coping with Dyspraxia
Thanks pompom! Well my mother and my sister think I can't look after myself, I don't what I need, She doesn't agree with my opinion on the sex topic and lectures me. Tells me not to date men who have a lot of problems or who are depressed no matter how nice and gentle the guy is, my mum complains about me being out too much, people I date, friends I hang around with and not following your footsteps and orders which make me seem younger than an adult, she never does that to my older except complains and interfeers in our love lives. I cant change my views on sex and life so she must surrender. Mum thinks sex is disgusting, sinfull, dangerious, evil and shows no sign of love. Since I was 18 I beleive now through my research, classes and experience that sex is apart of love but is the last thing on the list which has its importance.
Any way my mum thinks I can't think right and comments on most educational things I read. I love psychology and body language The OT thinks I have mild dyspraxia. I have never been properly diagnosed but I have alot of the symptoms.
