Rocking back and forth

Post by square peg »

Sometimes from side to side as well. Does anyone here do this? It's very common and apparently not necessarily a sign of mental disturbance (as some people think!) but it can be a problem if it bothers other people or makes them think you're crazy. Someone I sat with in class did it too, but people didn't mention it to her much because it wasn't as exaggerated as with me. Once my friend told me to stop because people were staring and it looked like my head was going to go through the computer screen! And I didn't know I was doing it at all! It happens more when I'm concentrating or anxious or when I'm sitting on something with no back support. Last year it got so bad that people complained to the school that it was distracting them in exams. I don't seem to have done it in college at all this year, so I wonder if it's stress-related. I still do it on the computer at home though, like when I'm thinking about what to type right now. :S

I rock from side to side if I'm standing upright. Can sit still, but I can't stand still. I tend to just pace from side to side if I've got the option - but this unnerves some people.

sometimes i do this, I can never stand or sit still unless I sit with my legs up. I also have a habit of swinging on chairs and sitting on tabels with my feet on a chair, somehow I find all this more comfortable than regualr sitting

I used to swing on chairs, until I fell over and hit my chin very hard!

I do the leg swing thing.. one leg on the go all the time when I'm sitting down. I also do the chair swing thing where you push yourself and the chair back leaning on the wall until its on two legs.. have crashed lots of times doing that though

I cock my head onto one side to talk to people. Its not a real problem but I mention this because it made one of my friends tried to mimic me while drunk and fell over recently =D>

I am the same, can't sit still, and another anoying thing for other people to see is that I shake my leg when sitting sometimes, and really gets on my friends nerves! yet I don't know I am doing it 75% of the time.

as for sitting on school chairs I extremely rarely sat with the 4 legs on the floor, I was one of the ones that would swing on 1 leg!! but never more than 2 legs on the ground!!

so no it isn't uncommon! :)
