Whether you're actively aware of it or not, could it just be nerves at the thought of wanting to cover over well in the meeting which probably means you have lots of things floating around in your head? The dyspraxic brain's ability to cope and juggle lots of things is know for being none too great and I've found that on the occasions I've been trying to manage the most I generally get the most muddled.
snap me too i get very muddled especially wen under pressure wen meeting new people and in new situations, i jus tell my self now well if they dont like me its there problem.
talking of meeting new people am the only bridesmaid at my mates wedding in june, i have only ever met her husband to be and her parenets there are going to be 150 people there i dont know, i have to wear clothes i wont be comfortable in namely a lilac dress, i have to walk up the aisle holding flowers without tripping i have to give a speech as she wants me too,i have to smile and look good on photos oh the pressure and all this in front of complete starngers (it is a free bar but iam not drinking at all) with out tripping muddling my words remembering what i ahve to do i am dreading it. plus my son who is under going assesments for dyspraxia and possibily ADD is page boy so thats double stress to make sure he isnt messing around or triping up up the ailse
Hmm...research shows encountering people from different cultures drains cognitive rescources. I wonder if a person you've not met yet has the same impact (as they are essentially in the "unknown" catagory)
Maybe it takes more cognitive rescources for a dyspraxic to perform physical activities (walking, grabbing a pen, whatever) so this drain manifests as reduced physical performance.
I am also clumsy when meeting new people. I try and get them to come over and meet me so I am in control of the immadiate space. I do that by moving slowly and people usally are in such a rush they get to me befor I can get up. I also do deep breathing exercises when I know before hand that I am going to meet new people. It helps control the stress.
How can I tell that the past isn't a fiction designed to account for the discrepancy between my immediate physical sensation and my state of mind?

I stumble while I'm walking too, a lot. I often twist my ankle. My balance is one of my worst traits, its pretty bad! But as a result I have very fast reflexes and hardly ever actually hit the floor as I find something to lean on or fall towards, or quickly right myself if not.
I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down
my technique is to as i'm walking and i'm generally having a bad balance day is to run my fingers on the wall as i'm walking. i call it "earthing myself" and it really helps
