I just found out the lady who first assessed me during my many referrals, Freda Newcombe, died in 2001.
I just googled her name, and it came back to a link to a page about the institute she helped found, and the plaque that marks her contribution to the Russel-Cairns Head-Injury Unit in Oxford.

I had idly entertained the possibility of writing to her one of these days and telling her how I'd got on since she saw me all those years ago.
Oh well.
Dr Freda Newcombe, a kind lady I will always remember. Farewell.
Losing someone...
