Courses for dyslexia

Post by SomeT »

Does anyone reckon those courses in colleges (in mostly adult education colleges) actually help people on dyspraxia aswell? Because I want to improve my maths skills.

I got an interview coming up soon for college for an access course, I had one last year and didnt do well on the mathmatics test they gave me so am worrying a bit becuase I did not get on that course for that which was computing by the way, I am going for an access course in Humanties this time though but they still said they would give me a numeracy test but they also said in the letter this time its just a test to see if I would need any help in that area? Confusing.

oh right. I've got a friend that has just sucessfuklly completed an access course in sciences and her initial assesment was exactly that- to see where she was with Maths - I think she also did a maths GCSE alondside the acces course but I'm not sure I'll ask her. The college were very very helpful and she has done really well, I know she had extra study sessions to help her initially.

The course itself seemed fab and she's learnt loads of stuff that would've helped me out in my first year so good luck with it, when's the interview?

I got the interview on the 25th August, ive spent all this week on a personal statment and new CV even though they said if your over 18 you do not have to bring them but I am going to anyway, just in great fear of this maths assesment because I have took over 5 maths qualifications before and never passed any of them, but they was due to not knowing I had a learning difficulty then I reckon and I did not get any additional support, I'm sure this maths assesment will just to be to test my ability rather than to test if I am good enough to get onto the course or not?

I think you're right, can you call and clarify it though so you're not extra nervous from worry? I like to be uber prepared too so I recon the c.v and personal statement prep is a good plan, gets everything fresh in your mind and you look all keen and stuff too.

I really would not worry about your maths test as it is purly to see what level you are at so that they can place you in an appropriate class. I did an access course a couple of years ago and that is exactly what happened. I did my test at the same time as this woman. i did really well, i never had a problem wiht maths, but she did really badly. therefore, when we started to course she went into a more elementary class where she ended up with a key skills level two qulification, which is equivalent to a GCSE.

Your blog implies you've bagged yourself a nice job though. What sort of thing have you got and so you have any tips of the other job seekers on the forum?
