oh gosh...
I just think I realized I'm dyspraxic...my friend had been hinting that he thought he had an LD his whole life and never knew it, so of course I go to check and see if I have one...yep. found one. of course it's this one. i'm trying to know what to think right now....
Hi
Welcome to the forum...
I had a similiar sort of thing always a little clumsy and had poor spelling, poor maths, poor handwritting and everyone moans that I don't hold a pen properly... I had suspicions that maybe I was dyslexic. When I went to uni the second time around they suggested an assessment.... and low and behold dyspraxia was the culprit....
You find it hard in the beginning to get to grips with all the things which have happened in the past which may not have happened if you had more help... then you feel angry then you calm down and accept it.... but it does take time...

See, I am 20...and only recently for some reason due to [sadly] some moments where you over-analyze yourself while high have made me come to this realization...I have always been amazing in english, reading, art and music, social studies...i was in the gifted classes elementary through middle school but ALWAYS struggled with math. and until recently I never thought I was THAT clumsy but I must have become clumsy or been under the impression I wasn't my whole life. I imagine everyone who thinks they may have this has gone through the same thing...how can I bring this up to someone to ask them if I do? Or if you can just tell?
You mention probems with maths I am wondering if you may also have a problem with dyscalculia....
Is it possible to sit down with your parents and discuss what sort of problems you may have experienced when growing up e.g. late in learning to talk or having problems learning to ride a bike.
Are you in full time education? If you are, you can get assessed through your college/university...
If you are not you could speak to your GP and ask for an assessment on the nhs or alternatively pay to have one done privately...

Good luck xurzy
As Liz said, it is kinda difficult to get to grips with at first (OK, I found it really difficult but we are all different, even dyspraxics!!) but u will get your head round it....once you do you realise its far better to know than not know.
I'm glad you found this forum so soon after you realised you may have dyspraxia...it didn't exist when I found out, and I felt too old for teen sites and it didnt feel right somehow to join a site for parents of dyspraxic kids....I wish this forum existed 3 years ago, cause it's been a fantasitic source of support and help for me!

I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down

I agree with you donnaf, as I learned about the condition in the June, and then wasn't until the January that I went and viewed my medical records 2 years ago.
and this forum is the best source of information, shame I wasn't looking for a web-site forum, or anything, it might have helped me through my thoughts and feelings, instead of going through that alone for the first 2 years.
and I agree it is better to know about it, and whether you got the condition, than being basically lied to all your life! like I was, but there again all my GP ever said if we weren't feeling well, was take a couple of asprine, and goto bed! tonsilitus, shakes (which I later discovered uncontrol-able shaking is part of the condition), you name it, the doctor always said the same, and that is why I changed doctors as soon as I could, and even though I have changed between gp's since with moving around and stuff, I have only found 1 gp surgary the best, and always tried getting back in there a.s.a.p.
this gp, is what is wrong with you? and then does action, not pussy foot around, he likes to get to the bottom of the cause rather than give silly answers. even if it means sending you straight to hospital.
