Introduction - Nathan James

Post by njwain »

Hello, everyone!

My name is Nathan James and I have a working diagnosis of Dyspraxia. I have had it since June 2024. Unfortunately, my local ICB doesn't commission Dyspraxia assessments, and I cannot afford a private assessment at present.

Does anyone else experience hand/wrist pain and lots of clicking/cracking for relief?

I get support form AtW & DSA where I get dictation software so I don't have to type. However, I'm currently doing my Level 2 BSL at my local college, and I'm struggling with keeping up with everyone, my brain-hand connection isn't the quickest, plus the pain & dexterity issues are making it difficult to sign at an appropriate pace.

I'm on the waiting list for an outpatient appointment at my local hospital's Hand Clinic, but it's gonna be months before I get an appointment.

Any advice?

Thanks :D

Hi Nathan

Welcome to the Forum

Dyspraxia affects everyone differently and many have other co-occurring conditions so it can be hard determining what condition(s) are to blame for a particular difficulty

Routes to getting a Dyspraxia Assessment for adults are patchy at best. I wonder if it might be worth approaching your Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) and/or your MP to see if Right To Choose may be an option for assessment?
Equally make sure you're GP is aware of the extent to which your wrist/hand pain is affecting your ability to perform normal day-to-day activities.

Noting your mention of both ATW and DSA are you working in the healthcare sector, whist doing day relaese at college?

All the Best for now and apologies for slow response
