More clumsier when meeting new people?

Post by Pooky »

This week I had a one to one meeting with someone.

I must have dropped my pen several times, and the piece of paper two or threes times. :D

Must have looked really odd fumbling around under the desk for them all the time :(

Whether you're actively aware of it or not, could it just be nerves at the thought of wanting to cover over well in the meeting which probably means you have lots of things floating around in your head? The dyspraxic brain's ability to cope and juggle lots of things is know for being none too great and I've found that on the occasions I've been trying to manage the most I generally get the most muddled.

Hmm...research shows encountering people from different cultures drains cognitive rescources. I wonder if a person you've not met yet has the same impact (as they are essentially in the "unknown" catagory)

Maybe it takes more cognitive rescources for a dyspraxic to perform physical activities (walking, grabbing a pen, whatever) so this drain manifests as reduced physical performance.

If only I had more time and funding...

I am also clumsy when meeting new people. I try and get them to come over and meet me so I am in control of the immadiate space. I do that by moving slowly and people usally are in such a rush they get to me befor I can get up. I also do deep breathing exercises when I know before hand that I am going to meet new people. It helps control the stress.
How can I tell that the past isn't a fiction designed to account for the discrepancy between my immediate physical sensation and my state of mind?

I'm not so much clumsy - well, that's a lie - I mean I'm much improved in terms of balance and not-walking-into-things-like-doors as I've grown older.

One thing I've noticed now, is tripping.

Nothing major, and I've not fallen down yet, but occasionally I'll be strolling along, all is well with the world and I'll just stumble.

It's a hard thing to describe, but it's like I forgot to move one of my legs whilst lost in the act of walking.

It got so my extended family in America noticed it.

Very odd. :-s

but then I'm odd. \:D/

so no change there then.

I stumble while I'm walking too, a lot. I often twist my ankle. My balance is one of my worst traits, its pretty bad! But as a result I have very fast reflexes and hardly ever actually hit the floor as I find something to lean on or fall towards, or quickly right myself if not.
I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down :D
