Friendships

Post by Danwatts »

Heya peeps, I know it been a while since I posted on here.

I got a question about certainency with friends and any coping strategies with close friendships that you have.

Sometimes I need certain or reassurance from friends from time to time as I struggle to feel their a friendship their.

Regarding close friendships I accept I can have close friendships but when I get told this from the person I become anxious and sometimes I think I want more closeness, eg talking all the time etc even tho I know that’s not healthy. As well I struggle for that certain factor so I sometimes do things for a reaction. Eg tag people in post or double message. It’s more due to me questioning things.

I believe part of the problem is that people often seem to have less time for others, especially so when
telling certain friends /family / others that we're not feeling ok or are anxious/worried.

Often we can get trapped into overthinking, especially when there's little or nothing to challenge our feelings of uncertainty .

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helped a lot. Are your friends receptive to your seeking reassurance?

I had some sessions of CBT prior to discovering/being told I was dyspraxic. Only on later on reflection did I fully appreciate the CBT probably helped me to process the info. Fellow members of this Forum and my friend also deserve significant credit and appreciation.

Reflecting on friendships, I realise that most of mine were formed during my school years. Nowadays, I’m just grateful to have just one close friend whom I’ve been friends with since 2012. Cherishing those lasting bonds makes me appreciate the value of genuine friendship.
