Hi. I've literally just joined, so I am completely new to all this! I have all the hallmarks of being dyspraxic, though these had to be pointed out to me by my ex-partner for me to realise it! I was formally diagnosed as autistic in February 2024.
About a year or so ago, I asked my GP to refer me for an assessment. Eventually, they contacted me with a number to call. First, I checked up online to see exactly who I would be calling! I was rather surprised to find that it was Talking Therapies (Shropshire & Telford). I decided at the time not to call them, as I didn't see any connection with a dyspraxia assessment.
However, I recently decided to call them and see what happened. Sure enough, all they could offer me was CBT, which I have tried on three seperate occasions over the past few years. It didn't work, as I just could not relate to the work it entailed. I later discovered that this is very typical for autistic people.
So now, I'm really not sure what my next move should be. If I go back to my GP, will they only offer me the same thing again? I'm reluctant to go private, as it can be expensive. But I suspect this may be my only option. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks!

Re: Dyspraxia assessment
To be fair to your GP and not being party to what they said when provided the number to you plenty of NHS areas have no provision for Adult Dyspraxia Assessment and even for those that do there is little or know advice on what to do after you've been assessed to be dyspraxic (probably the same with Autism too?)
I actually received CBT from my employer pre-learning about Dyspraxia and in hindsight I think it helped as did discovering this Forum.
I get that you want a specific question answered and it's maddening that they don't (cannot). Have you spoken to the Talking Therapies people and made known what you need so you can say to your GP I called Talking Therapies and they told me they don't /cannot cover Dyspraxia diagnosis. Please can we revisit this because these things [insert list] are really affecting my ability to function.
