I think I have dyspraxia?

Post by jeh86 »

Hello there all.

I am 38 years old and it has only been in the last few months that I have started to strongly believe I have dyspraxia though it may only be mild.

I used to be so bad at coordination that I could walk for hours in the wrong direction before I realised anything was wrong. I have improved on this now.

Furthermore, no matter how many times I am shown even at 38 I cannot do shoe laces. I also struggle with knots of any kind. I can do ties to some level but not in the correct way.

I also struggle with following recipes.

I also was so bad at sport in school. I have been braver lately and started adult swimming lessons and the first one was not as terrible as thought. I have a personal trainer too and though I took time to understand some exercises it is largely going OK. However, I recall a few years ago being unable to do the exercises no matter how many times I was shown.

Is it possible I have dyspraxia and what steps would you take if you are me? I also do not drive.

Hi and welcome

I think there's certainly a chance you're a member of the trible. There's no requirement to have a formal diagnosis to join this or other online Dyspraxic communities.

Not all of us have read or follow the Rules Of Being Dyspraxic so we don't all get hopelessly lost everytime we go to unfamiliat places . Or shy away from anything that requires any degree of coordination.

Assuming you're UK based? If you're looking for recognised confirmation the NHS is not the only option.

Have a look at https://www.dyspraxicadults.org.uk/foru ... php?t=7385 for some links and feel free to ask any further questions you might have.
