Hi everyone, and greetings from Germany! I'm not the best at introductions.
I’m a 47-year-old mother of two—a 19-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son. My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 13, and just last month, he was also diagnosed with dyspraxia. I’ve spoken with an expert to understand dyspraxia better, but I was hoping to find online communities for support and connection. I’m not sure if there are other parents in a similar situation, but I thought I’d give it a try.
Managing his diabetes is already a constant challenge. His blood sugar fluctuates throughout the day, and he doesn’t seem too concerned about his eating habits or the importance of taking insulin when his blood sugar is high. Now, with the addition of dyspraxia, things feel even more complex. Are there any other parents here with children who have both diabetes and dyspraxia?

Hi Gingerka
I'm not aware of a direct connection between Dyspraxia and Diabetes, though I can understand some of the difficulties with dyspraxia could make managing his Type 1 Diabetes more challenging.
We're primarily an adult group rather than a parents group so no guarantee our readership will necessarily include dyspraxic adults with dyspraxic and diabetic children.
If you do Facebook it might be worth joining and asking in a Dyspraxia group that has a larger number of parent members.

Thank you for your reply. I joined primarily to read and learn more about dyspraxia, as I’m not confident that I fully understand it yet; my son was diagnosed fairly recently. I’ll take a look at Facebook. Thank you.Tom fod wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:38 pm Hi Gingerka
