Informal review

Post by Jax »

Hi, I’m new on here and it’s quite a long post. I am Autistic, and in my role at work there is a lot of admin. I have struggled with my MH on and off since a youngster and have had time off more this year.

I had a return to work meeting on Tuesday with my senior and was informed that will be an informal review when our manager returns from annual leave on the 23rd. This has been triggered because of the sickness over the last 6 months. Because of the autism, I have huge anxiety and challenges with executive functioning and working memory and things slip despite my intentions.

My senior called me into the office again on Wednesday and I became very overwhelmed and nearly walked out. I had to sit trying to stave off a panic attack, horrendous.

Fortunately, both my manager and senior are off next week and I have some breathing space.

I added this to a private group and someone mentioned it could be due to Dyspraxia, hence I found the foundation and this forum. I will discuss further with the GP. What do I do now, I know my job is at risk?

Hi Jax

Welcome to the Forum. Often Dyspraxia cooccurrs with autism and it always used to be let's not give people labels
. That misses point that these labels can help us understand and be a bit more kind to and patient with ourselves from knowing.

An informal review suggests more of a return to work type of thing and how can we help you settle back in rather than a formal discussion about your future with them.

Sadly the Dyspraxia Foundation ceased operations in April but there are plenty of peer support groups Inc this Forum.

Hey! It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time, and it’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed. Take that breathing space to focus on self-care. Maybe try some stress-relief techniques, like deep breathing or a quick walk, to help you recharge. It might also help to gather your thoughts about what support you need at work. Consider reaching out to your HR or a support group for advice tailored to your situation. Having an open convo with your GP about your concerns can also be a game-changer.
