Worried about a capability meeting at work

Post by mackie1024 »

Hello
I wonder if I can get some help…

I have been asked to attend a capability meeting at Work due to making a mistake while I was working having a bad mental health day. This was due to me finally having the courage after eight years to rearrange my workspace to better suit me the day before when I came in some colleagues who were junior to me moved it all back to where it was before,
This was really distressing to me and it meant that I was not in my right mind when completing a task every time I have asked for workplace adjustments to help me I have been refused and said it was not possible so I have to create my Own Space
I do feel that my strengths are not being utilised at work as my creative abilities are really good at working out how we can work overall in a more efficient and stressfree way after eight years of trying and every time I get refused to change the processes, even though I have the authority to do so
My line manager now thinks I’m incapable of doing my job and the person who reported my mistake is being lauded even though they did not correct it properly
I feel like I am not given the option to defend myself as every time I’ve mentioned the word dyspraxia I have been dismissed as this is not important to me And I’m not giving a chance to show what I am truly capable of, and therefore what the team I manage is also truly capable of
Other superiors to me are now joining on the bandwagon and I cannot talk to their superiors as they all have close personal friendships or are married to each other so this makes it really difficult. Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with this? I like my job and I am good at it and I want to stay, but I feel like I’m being forced out from forces beyond my control.

Hi Mackie

Sorry not to be able to welcome you under better circumstances

Do you have or could you get support from a Union Rep? Do you have a manager or any colleagues who watched the whole thing unfold and perhaps felt awkward and might offer some support with backing up your need for some workplace adjustments and better processes that might actually better serve everyone.

If necessary

Support at or relating to work

SCOPE (UK Disability Organisation). https://www.scope.org.uk

ACAS: https://www.acas.org.uk. Helpline Mon to Fri 0800 -1800 (6pm) 0300 123 1100

Are from the Forum's Help Resources Directory: viewtopic.php?t=7385

It's really in their interests to allow you flexibility in your work environment, how you are tasked and how you organise your approach to discharging the responsibilities of your role. The situation at your workplace comes across as Toxic to me and I know I would be equally as stressed and anxious were I in your shoes.

I hope this helps

Document everything and try talking to HR with your evidence. It might also help to look for workplace advocacy groups for support. Hang in there and keep pushing for what you need.
