Hello
Hi everyone, my name is Matt. I am 53. I was a clumsy, hyperactive child. I am a clumsy and hyperactive adult, which is can be pretty desctructive, since I weigh about 80Kgs, I basically leave a trail of devastation. At school (back in the 70's) I was labelled 'minimally brain damaged'; which is charming! As it happens, I am an avid reader and now an academic, it's actually the physical things that are an obstruction for me. A couple of years back, I felt that DCD might be the reason I cannot understand processes and forms, especially. I went to the GP who thought probably ADHD. I was referred to a psychiatric nurse who could not diagnose but was certain I had pretty extreme ADHD with emphasis on the 'H'. However, I was mysteriously discharged before I could see a psychiatrist, so I never got to the bottom of it. Recently, I started thinking ADHD may not be be the most impactful issue (I am sure I have it). It is anything which involves steps, processes or similar. Especially physical things, I just cannot do it, without getting exhausted. I was in the Navy for 30 years, and still start sweating when I think about knots!

Welcome to the Forum. There's a lot of crossover between dyspraxic and ADHD traits so whilst you might not have met all the diagnostic criteria for ADHD then you potentially might now given better enlightenment about neurodivergent conditions.
Minimal Brain Damage and the equally derogatory Clumsy Child Syndrome were terms used before they came up with Dyspraxia.
