Hi, I have had dyspraxia suggested by another group. I have bpd )borderline personality disorder, and among a few other named issues are anxiety and depression. But the symptoms of dyspraxia fit me like a glove, and whilst no one wants to be labelled or told you have yet another problem but it would initially be such a huge relief to know there is a reason for everything that I experience on a day to day process. I guess I need to have a chat with my doctor?

The difficulties of living with unrecognised underlying dyspraxia may well have contributed to your BPD

Please be mindful that
[*]Many doctors know only a little about dyspraxia and may wrongly believe 'you should have grown out of it'
[*]Some are somewhat reticent about challenging or overturning diagnoses made previously by their 'more eminent' peers
[*]That they might not have any options to refer you as an adult for testing/assessment

Go armed with a list of examples of how you align with traits/symptoms, how these impact you and how an assessment would help you.
I sincerely hope your doctor is helpful and listens rather than aligning with the above.

Welcome Glad you've found us!

Sadly the Forum is not as active as it used to be as there are fortunately many other avenues of support particularly on Social media platforms where it is in many ways easier to communicate in the moment.

While a lot of our day to day vwork as Admins seems to be removing spam I still believe this forum offers an alternative to groups on social media and it's also more easily searchable.

Hi all,

I am new here as of today I am in England I have been doing a bit of research over the past few days as I already have verbal dyspraxia and wondered what the difference was between dyspraxia to verbal dyspraxia where I learnt what some of the symptoms were how I was saying yes to some of them for instance.

I have already been told when I was at school that I had poor hand eye coordination to having bad handwriting where my wrist would hurt when writing but this was put down to my hypermobility which I have in my fingers and toes to walking differently to others, I also do find it hard to put my ideas down onto paper to forgetting to do something as I have sort term memory but I can remember conversation from years ago but forget if I brushed my teeth or had my first drink after my breakfast as well saying what I think before thinking it through which comes across as rude but lucky my work colleagues know that I don't mean it.

I am not sure how to enquire about getting a dyspraxia assessment or if these symptoms are related to something else but are similar to dyspraxia I apologise for wasting anyone's time or if this is not the correct forum to use.

Sorry not to have noticed your post sooner.

In 1999 my daughter then 18 came home from college and told us she had been assessed as dyslexic and the assessor - I presume an educational psychologist said she was also dyspraxic.

I researched and found I am to.

having read Amanda Kirby's first hidden handicap book - I followed the advice - contacted the Dyspraxia Foundation and got involved with the adult panel - I seemed to be similar to the others but not being able to get a formal assessment via my work, I took the advice of the DF's Adult Coordinator and went to see a Chartered Psychologist - I tried to conceal my suspicion of dyspraxia and just gave my symptoms and difficulties at work - he did a thorough assessment and confirmed dyslexia and dyspraxia - thereafter I tried to get confirmation that was acceptable to my national Health service General Practitioner - which involved two separate assessments by consultant neurologists - both of whom did not seem to recognise adult dyspraxia - eventually years later an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist confirmed dyspraxia.

Coincidentally I saw a new (to me GP) today - a youngish woman - she was testing me for a recent problem with giddiness and had me doing various hand eye movements - including the one dome to test dyspraxia (she was checking I did not have a brain tumour) - part of her giddiness exploration was a touch your nose with one finger - left/right hand - I mentioned I am dyspraxic and she accepted it completely - things have moved on somewhat in 20+ years - and I did miss my nose with my left hand - now to mild amusement.
